Yeah if you are complaining about Moser and Beilein but think this is a good hire, then you deserve yet more mediocrity.
I think he might be OK - he did have a couple of 50-win seasons in the NBA - but probably just OK. The fact that heās gone back to being an assistant coach after being a head coach for years seems like a negative.
I just learned that Mike Woodson and I share a birthday
What are the ranges here? Tim Miles (worst case) to Fran (best case)?
An IU coach can bring in serious talent, more than Iowa can, so his best-case has to be better than Fran. But Iām not sure exactly what it is.
The worst case is far below Tim Miles. Tim Miles actually did okay for that job. Worst case is Eddie Jordan.
Thatās a good observation. I am a Hawks fan so Iāve seen a lot of Mike Woodson basketball. Nothing really spectacular. Nice guy. But the Hawks improved a lot when they brought in Budenholzer soon after him. Woodson was never gonna get another NBA job.
Recruits dont know who he is and he has no recruiting experience. I think the recruiting could be a trainwreck.
Indiana saw what we did with Juwan and is trying replicateā¦ except thereās a slight difference between Juwan and Woodson
So Tom Crean lol
Yeah but didnāt people say that about Juwan with no recruiting experience too?
That might be it
Juwan is 48. Mike Woodson is 62
Associate AD for menās basketball administration. Sounds like a cushy job
So he might be sort of like their Martelli? Not on the bench, but there to help Woodson adapt to the college game?
Ha yeah. IU probably not looking at that. Must be a blind spot.
I donāt think this is a bad hire. Xās and Oās wonāt be a problem. The Indiana brand should help with recruiting. Matta can help with the transision. If he surrounds himself with people that know the college game I could see this working.
I just donāt see a guy in his 60s with no cultural cache killing it on the recruiting trail. Combine that with him basically being a replacement-level NBA head coach means I donāt see what the real positive vibes are here.
