Curbelo and Miller will be an interesting backcourt next year. We haven’t seen Miller with the ball in his hands and we haven’t seen Curbelo make jumpers.
I wonder if Illinois looks like OK State 2017 (our R32 heart attack opponent) with Curbelo playing the role of Jawun Evans.
Harder to project if Curbelo is truly incapable of shooting though.
Have to imagine Potter leaves too with the issues he and Gard had this year. At which point the rest of them can come back and it won’t matter, this year’s Wisconsin team with no Trice/Potter isn’t sniffing the tournament IMO
Davis is a guard. Wisconsin fans certainly think it will be him. Not sure he’ll be particularly effective though. Davison seems like the kind of guy that would stick around. They have a freshman PG coming in.
They have a borderline top 100 PG prospect coming in next year. They had a top 200 PG/CG from Michigan in their freshman class and he left the team for personal reasons before the season started, but he’ll be back next year. Besides that it’s either a transfer, bring back Davison and go back to his freshman year role as the lead guard, or bring back Trevor Anderson and let him start at PG full time. None of those seem appealing.
Really going to be hard to know with the transfer portal so full. Even iffy recruiters are going to have a shot at reloading. I’m glad the kids are getting more leverage vis-a-vis the schools, and this will be a shot for us to add an elite upperclassman guard perhaps, but strictly from a competitive POV I’d rather this not be happening. Rather Izzo not get the chance to fill the significant holes on his roster. Same for Gard.
Seems like a quick hire. I believe the word was Pitino knew he was getting fired, so maybe they reached out to a bunch of candidates before the tournament. Then again, Xavier didn’t make it so I wonder if this was Plan B or C.
