Big Ten Basketball 2020-21 Discussion (Part 1)

Wasn’t that the year UNC’s best player got injured against Creighton? I know from Reddit that UNC fans hate Creighton cause I guess it was a dirty play or something. Maybe a not worn out Michigan team makes it to the elite 8 that year by pure luck lol

Oh yeah, I forgot about Kendall Marshall getting hurt. I wouldn’t say he was their best player (that was probably Tyler Zeller) but maybe their most important since I don’t think they really had any other viable PG options.

Totally agree. The conference title is a tomorrow problem and I think the B10 learned their lesson from football and are intentionally being vague right now because they don’t want to come up with a rule that they have to end up breaking. They may end the conference tournament, they may change the conference tournament to be a play-in for the bottom half, they may award by winning percentage…who knows. I’m not worried about that.

I also agree on the public statement. I understand that it is hard to go public when you don’t have much to say and the situation/science changes rapidly. But you can be confident and transparent and humble…even without actually saying much of substance.

For the record, the OSU thing bothered me because it was OSU and because the B10 painted themselves into a corner. I didn’t like that they broke/changed a rule that they had just created so that it would benefit OSU. But they got lucky because of the H2H win over IU so there was no question. Frankly, I also didn’t think the title game really mattered because OSU could have played someone else that day like MN and the CFP would have still selected them.

On this theme, a possible silver lining is that Eli’s foot has some additional time to heal. He looked healthy against Purdue (other for several minutes after being flattened by Zach Edey), but he could be playing through discomfort. There should be less chance of an injury reoccurrence later in the season.

Maybe it will hurt the team but I don’t think we can take any lessons from that team. This team is probably going to get a 2 seed at worse barring some crazy shutdown etc… The only teams of note they beat in non conference was Memphis, Iowa St. They were 17-7 at one point and worked hard to get to that stage of getting a tie for the conference. Was the team gassed or did they run into a bad matchup against Ohio?? I would lean more towards a bad match up.

That was a real stacked team with Barnes/Bullock/Henson along with Marshall/Zeller. Beat a lot of good teams that year.

To be fair, both Novak and Douglass did say that Ohio was about the worst first round matchup they could have had. Definitely a factor.

…and maybe do a bit of schoolwork. :slightly_smiling_face:

LOL! That too!

I’m not concerned in the least about any type of Big Ten banner this year. Whatever. Just play the NCAA tourney already. If you’re going to continually play Russian Roulette, at least do it for the highest stakes. Work the regular season out as conveniently as possible

If this was already mentioned, sorry I missed it but Isaiah Livers was named B1G player of the week on Monday. Congrats Zay!
