Warriors are in trouble defensively once Draymond retires. People like to trash him bc he’s not a plus shooter and a scorer but Draymond is valuable on the defensive side as well as facilitate the offense for Steph/Klay.

Klay’s just not the same on defense post-injury. That’s a factor too.

Yeah I mean they’re just old. Klay used to be a very good wing defender and he’s not that anymore. Their young guys are just not that good, they either did a poor job developing or a poor job drafting, cause they had 3 lotto picks to try to get some youth into the organization and totally failed to find a difference maker

Wiggins has looked good defensively and Kuminga and Moody have potential. But they might need to replace Looney with more of a rim protector when Draymond moves on.

Yeah, agreed. They’re just old, and they didn’t get enough from the draft to compensate. Wiggins was a great move but it’s not enough. I think it’s too early to write them off, and maybe they have one more smoke-and-mirrors run in them, but I will definitely miss them when they are gone. They do play the most beautiful basketball IMO. Least hateable dynasty for me.

They sure could have used someone like Franz. He seemed like a great fit there too. That was a miss.

If I’m a Dubs fan I’m killing myself over Franz. How perfect he would have been.

Mostly agree tho it’s worth saying that almost nobody from the Moody class is a legit impact playoff ready player at this point and where they were drafting meant things would be a dice roll pretty much no matter what. Wiseman was a huge miss and was a pretty obvious issue whiff at the time. Imagine where this whole thing would be if they had drafted Lamelo.

Yeah I mean Moody is the pick I have the least issue with. I liked him a lot and liked that pick, he’s still young and it is tough for second year guys to be impact playoff players. Hated the Wiseman pick and that was the best asset they had and they basically lit it on fire

Last night, the only good defenders they had were Draymond and Payton, everyone else was average to below average (Poole, awful defensively when healthy, being on 1.5 ankles didn’t help, credit to him for gutting it out)

The thing that got me last night was the Kings pace - they ran on EVERYTHING, including makes. The Warriors would almost hang their heads after Kings misses, then Mitchell and even Monk picked them up full court, and the Warriors had a REALLY hard time dealing with it. Bob Voulgaris had a stat that the Warriors had the ball for over 18 seconds before their first shot off Kings makes last night.

Also, the Warriors had nobody that could handle Fox, not even Payton.

As per Draymond…I mean, he had a point, Sabonis did grab his ankle and restricted his movement. BUT…dude, just don’t stomp.

I still don’t think this is where the Warriors’ run ends (but I do think it ends this post-season). I’m interested to see how it goes. Draymond obviously you assume is going to make it look ugly, I think Klay would too. I’m sort of expecting a sort of unbecoming composure loss.

I remember not liking the Kuminga pick at the time either since no one was sure what he was going to become and it was a huge gamble in addition to the Wiseman gamble. He’s actually started to do pretty well and has more room to improve - but I’m not sure where his ceiling is. I think getting a wing stopper or rim protector to clean up for the shaky defense Poole, Curry, and Klay offer is going to be needed. I can’t stand Draymond but I do respect his defense and acknowledge that he cleans up those messes.

Yeah I think it’s a real credit to Brown that he realized having a substantially younger team means you really can max effort and not get locked into a half court battle w these older skillful teams.

The pace in general of these playoffs feels higher too? Instead of everybody gearing up to go all out in the half court, they’re putting that effort into running and it’s making for some shaggier but interesting and intense games.

Glad they got rid of the “take” foul.

Yeah, the Mem/LAL series and this one were super fast, Clippers/Suns was pretty fast too (and only 1 of those four teams is young, but Lebron has been the best transition player in the league for like 20 years, so…)

It just seems like Kerr has 1 five man lineup he wants to play (Steph, Payton, Klay, Wiggins, Draymond)

and just swallows in fear with anything else
