John Hollinger Wagner scout
Few nuggets:
“Now in his sophomore season, Wagner is far and away the best prospect in the Big Ten.”
“Overall, it’s unclear yet whether there is enough shot creation upside to get Wagner into the top ten, but I can’t imagine him lasting much beyond that point. This combination of size, feel and mobility is valuable even if the shooting and shot-creation component is only average. If those elements of his game come around he could end up a hugely valuable starting wing in a few years.”
In my mind Franz will definitely want to stay another year like his brother did, mostly because he’ll want to experience March Madness in front of fans. I’ve convinced myself of this and nobody will tell me different. Also, I’m still pissed we missed out on Jamal Cain.
Well I’ll find solace next year knowing he’s at least at Michigan in your mind.
I’m not ready to deal with a Michigan team without a Wagner. I’m plugging my ears and singing “la la la” if anyone even floats the idea.
Me neither
Still holding out hope we can find a secret Wagner we just don’t know about yet. Have you heard anything?
I’ve resigned myself to the fact that Franz is gone. He’s going to have given us two incredible years after committing to a program in flux, and going pro will without a doubt be the right decision for him. I’d obviously prefer he stay selfishly, but am fully expecting him to leave.
No-brainer. Gonna miss him, and here’s hoping for so e tournament heroics, but it’s totally reasonable.
To be fair, we were Wagnerless in the 18-19 season. But Iggy was kind of an honorary Wagner in my mind.
Good for Franz, wishing him the best and a great contract in the NBA !
…and we had the comfort of knowing there was another Wagner we could get on the team. After Franz, there’s like, no more… (at least until Franz’s and Moe’s kids are college age)
I’m still hoping Moe had a secret child no one knows about when he was 15 or 16 years old
Sam Vecenie has Franz ranked #15 on his most recent pod as well.
Any cousins?
Franz may not be a franchise player, but he checks call the boxes of a prototype NBA small forward and has tons of untapped potential as 18 year old. He is a high floor, higher ceiling, and low maintenance prospect, I don’t think he will get inside 10, but 11-15 is not a reach.
I get everything but ‘low maintenance.’
Is that dig necessary? Fiery competitor does not equal high maintenance. Franz is low maintenance. He is a great kid off the court that coaches do not need to worry about when he steps away from the facility. On the court he doesn’t demand a certain number of shots. He isn’t trying to compile statistics and “get his.” He plays whatever role the coaches ask of him. He is the ultimate team guy who will do whatever it takes to win. Just because he shows emotion on the court doesn’t mean he is high maintenance. I’m guessing 99% of coaches view that fiery attitude as a preferred trait in a basketball player.
I interpreted that as him not understanding how a basketball player can be low maintenance. He’s not a lawn mower.
No, he’s not a lawnmower. He’s a wingwhacker.
