The championship run was definitely up there, but my favorite has to be our win over Tennessee in Darius’ Sophomore year. Michigan, as you may remember was supposed to be awful that year (but being a true Michigan man, I watched every game that year), and we shocked everybody to make the tourney, DOMINATE Tennessee and then almost beat Duke in the next round (I actually cried when we lost). To top it all off I was living in Tennessee at the time, and I rubbed in the win to my buddies for years afterward. It was just such a happy time and great moment for this HUGE Michigan fan! What’s your favorite Michigan bball moment (not the National championship run if possible)?
Well there isn’t much outside of this year’s tournament, since we haven’t made the sweet 16 in my lifetime up until this year. But my vote goes for the “get the fuck off my court” game against MSU with Morris
Traylor (rip) throwing down the funk and watching the glass rain down
Don’t forget the home win over Duke early in Beilein’s tenure. That was easily one of the biggest.
It’s got to be the comeback vs. kansas in the sweet sixteen this year. After all of the shots that went in and out for Trey at the buzzer throughout his career, to see it finally fall was a moment I will never forget.

The three-pointer that Stu hit in East Lansing in 2011 to ice the game. I about jumped through the ceiling. We were 1-6 in the league at the time and it looked as though Coach Beilein’s seat was going to get very warm. Since that game we’re 36-17 in the Big Ten (including BTT games). It was the win that changed the entire trajectory of the program and that shot iced it. Getting chills just thinking about it.

And this one
This was a pretty good time too
As was this
Freaking Dion Harris and Brent Petway beat a bunch of NBA players…
Can anyone find video of Horton schooling Dee Brown? Or Traylor stomping on Wojo?
Here’s my top 5 moments…
- Rumeal Robinson’s free throw to beat Seton Hall and win the 1989 Championship.
- Trey Burke’s 3 pointer to tie Kansas and force overtime in 2013 tourney run.
- Sean Higgins hitting a rebound put-back to beat Illinois and send Michigan to the 1989 Title game.
- Stu Douglass hitting the game-sealing three against MSU at the Breslin Center in 2011.
- The Fab Five victory over Kentucky in the 1993 Final Four in overtime.
Honorable Mention - The Fab Five comeback against UCLA in their 1993 tourney run.
Or Stu and Zak celebrating e B1G Championship…

Great list. I’d substitute the 1987 91-88 win over #5 Syracuse for your #4. During my time in A2 (85-89), I never heard Crisler Arena louder. If only we had had the Maize Rage section back then [he types wistfully].
Beating an undefeated Rutgers team in the Final Four to reach the final in 1976 was the best, but beating Marquette at home the lat day of the next season to be Number 1 going into the tournament was close.
That comeback against Kansas has to be one of the most special Michigan basketball moments I can remember. That, and making the tournament for the first time since the Paleozoic Era.
Burkes shot against Kansas. I remember the Fab 5 but my memories are fuzzy.
Born in 89 so not a lot to choose from but breaking the tourney drought and the 2010-11 sweep of MSU were big. My fav to watch highlights and replays of are the 89 FF vs Illinois and the Elite Eight vs Jim Jackson and OSU in 92
Glen Rice going off against Virginia in the 89 Regional Final and blowing them out. That was when I new that they had a real chance to go all the way.
In no specific order…
Roy Tarpley 3 ot game winner vs Iowa
Gary Grant game winner in Indiana his frosh yr
Sean Higgins put back to beat Illinois in NCAA semis
Rumeal Robinson making both FT’s to win NCAA Tourney
Win vs OSU in regional final Fab 5 frosh yr
Glen Rice’s run in the '89 NCAA Tourney
Trey Burke shot vs. Kansas
Stu Douglass dunk vs. Tennessee
I’m young and I was fortunate enough to go to the Final Four this year, so it has to be Trey’s shot, but Spike’s 17 in the first half against Louisville is pretty nice, too.
My favorite non-game moment has to be after the Syracuse game there were a ton of people waiting for the team in the hotel lobby in the early hours of the morning, and my friend and I were really thirsty so went to the back conference area for a vending machine. The timing was so great that the team was coming back and I got to talk to all the players while they came in the back.
