Been dying for a moving screen.
Man am I wrong, or is this idea that our draw was easier than States kind of a semantics/wrong sentiment?
Did we say that in the pod? Generally I think they were pretty similar considering that most people thought UT should have had Duke’s spot on the S-curve based on resume.
That’s kinda what I meant. Just in a few pods I have listened too it’s “well Michigan got a good draw, CSU couldn’t match up, Tennessee is less talented other than Chandler etc” that’s just what I heard Brendan say. I just think it seems like a bit revisionist history, and that the two got pretty similar looks
Yeah that’s a real dumb argument. Most people thought Tennessee should’ve been a 2 and Duke should’ve been a 3. Colorado State is a little better than Davidson too. And if you are shooting for the easy 6 seed argument, LSU and Alabama also lost in the first round as 6 seeds.
I do think that in a vacuum, Michigan’s matchup with CSU and Tennesee wasn’t bad. Not that it was an easy draw, but that there was a path to winning both of those games. I didn’t look at either one and say “oh, well this is going to be a disaster”.
I don’t know who in their right mind would have rather played Duke than Tennessee. And I’ll never understand the outrage about Duke getting a two-seed over Tennessee; it was proper seeding, IMO.
If you did a blind resume the overwhelming majority would choose the resume of Tennessee.
I think the luck turned out to be that our opponents were good fits for Frankie.
True, but I think the only teams in the country I’d feel confident would absolutely destroy Michigan are Gonzaga and Arizona. Michigan has a path to victory against anyone else in the country I think.
I think Arizona is by far the worst matchup possible for Michigan because Koloko and Ballo have the size and athleticism to shut down Dickinson. Obviously everything Michigan does kind of revolves around Dickinson so you shut him down, there is virtually no chance. Then you add an elite wing with shooting and athleticism in Mathurin and it’s a nightmare. I was really hoping for that TCU win to open up the region. Hopefully Houston can take care of them. And while Michigan would very likely lose, I think Michigan matches up better with Gonzaga because Timme isn’t that athletic and Holmgren is so skinny so I think Dickinson could get his.
Feel like Houston is up there. I think Eric is right, Houston has the athleticism, defensive and rebounding ability to give Michigan problems they haven’t seen since Arizona and if they can beat Arizona…I think they can go on to win the entire thing. The only thing stopping them from beating Gonzaga would be the refs.
If Houston can get by Arizona with Koloko and they just got by Kofi I can’t see Dickinson scaring Houston. I still can’t believe Wisconsin beat Houston this year and that was when Houston had Sasser and Mark. It was the Davis coming out party but still.
That’s incredible that Wisconsin’s soft as baby doo interior presence could stand up to Houston. Must have been a ref show.
Yeah I don’t see either AZ or Houston being a good match up for Michigan. Houston is a bunch of very athletic, strong and relentless athletes, I don’t see them being an easier test than AZ really in any way. Maybe less NBA talent? But more realized talent at the college level?
Houston isn’t a great matchup, but Carlton is really the only guy over 6’8 and he only plays about half the game. Arizona has two athletic seven footers that combine to play the full 40. And Kofi had 19 and 8. It’s not like they shut him down. Illinois’ guards were just horrendous in that game. Houston = bad matchup, but I don’t think it’s impossible to win. With Arizona, I don’t really even think it’s possible.
All good points I take it back we beat Houston by 80 if we play them.
now you’re speaking my language
You didn’t look at a game against a team reliant on heavy ball pressure without our senior PG and see a path for a disaster tire fire (such as second half indiana when we collapsed in part due to their ball pressure)?
