Mitch McGary already showing off in the NBA

Oklahoma City had a scrimmage yesterday and McGary looked good

Mitch McGary has incredible agility for a man his size. The rookie forward out of Michigan had the play of the day when he hauled in a defensive rebound, dribbled the length of the court and flushed a powerful one-handed dunk in traffic. On the next possession, he secured another defensive board but found Durant this time before taking off. When McGary reached the free throw line at the other end, Durant fed it right back to him and McGary hauled it in cleanly and finished with a gorgeous finesse layup with his left hand. It was the same jaw-dropping versatility we saw out of McGary at summer league. On Sunday, he showed that it might just be standard procedure.

I wish we got to see more of him in the maize and blue.

Yeah that will be one of my biggest disappointments was the limited time getting to watch him at Michigan… Freshman year he was learning and the game finally slowed down for him come tournament time… Then year two he played some games but was injured while playing… Would have loved a full year

It is hard not to like Mitch, wish that he could’ve stayed.

It’s hard not to like him as a PLAYER. As a person, judging from his interviews, he doesn’t even pretend to show remorse for his actions, only that he got caught, which isn’t exactly a quality that I find admirable… I think we already had this conversation on the board at some point though, so that’s all I’m going to say. I definitely wish we got to see more of him in maize though, he would’ve been a beast.

I don’t condone the activity, but I think he realizes the stupidity of the ruling when guys all over the NCAA get caught with it and sit out a game a two, and in some cases miss no time. Enforce the rule one way, not ten different ways.

Mitch was certainly my favorite player during the past 5-10 years, he had a certain energy and grit about himself that was contagious to the crowd during games at Crisler. His impact on the court went beyond points, rebounds, blocks, etc…the guy only knew how to play one way…GO HARD. He had the ability to impose his will on the opposition, his mentality will be greatly missed. He never even got to tap into his potential at UM.

I’m sure he felt remorse that he couldn’t help his teammates. But I doubt he felt remorse for what he did, nor should he. And I’m sure his teammates understood because chances are, he did it with some of his teammates.

Hate to get into politics on a sports board, but we’re talking about something that is arguably less harmful than alcohol depending on your preferred medical study…something the great majority of us probably indulge in from time to time. Is it illegal on a federal basis…yes, but does illegal in a technical sense always translate into moral culpability…no. At least not in my view. I still hold Mitch in high regard as a player and a person.

I know that it’s less harmful. I really could care less about the fact that he did it, and I also think the punishment was ridiculous, but when you are asked what advice you would give to kids and the answer is “don’t get caught”, I really can’t say I agree. I definitely love the way he plays, as all Michigan fans should, but that one interview posted here a couple months back was just very interesting to me… On that note, let’s just forget about it and talk about basketball!

I really don’t like the whole interview video in which that word came up. I don’t think we have enough context going in. Obviously would have liked another year out of Mitch, but there was no choice to make after the NCAA test.

That sounds familiar
