Michigan Players in the NBA

Big diff between adequate and stopper, plus he’s got good instincts as a helper and he’s huge.

Whenever you make these awesome posts about Michigan players in the NBA it always makes me wonder about the other guys who aren’t quite there. I did a quick check for former players in the G-League to see if they sniffed a game in the NBA this year. Castleton, Bufkin, and Vlad have not appeared in any games this season yet. Hunter played in one game for a handful of minutes and scored his first basket…but hasn’t played for two months.

If you’re curious where everyone else is around the world, I found this link interesting. Three players in China’s league!

Danny getting a lot more minutes lately. Nets letting him run offense.

Hilarious seeing some of his passes resulting in a clank or hesitating to take a shot, leading to a blocked shot.

Vlad got his first NBA minute tonight.

Danny just needs to clean those turnovers up, but dude will be successful. I like Marks. He’s a good evaluation of draft talent imo. He should never have pivoted to the big 3.

Livers returned in time to play peacemaker during the Williams/Alvarado fight.

Isaiah Livers returned, and played 26 minutes in the Suns’ past 3 games. He attempted three total shots, was 1/2 from three, grabbed four boards and handed out 5 assists.

Danny Wolf has somewhat cooled off. In 5 games since our last update, he’s averaged a bit over 19 minutes and averaged 4.6 points, 2.8 boards, 1.8 assists, and 0.9 turnovers. The shooting has been the major struggle here - 27.3% from the floor, but 28.5% (6/21) from 2 (thus, 25% from three).

Moussa Diabate has played the Hornets’ 7 games since our past update, starting the past 4 with Ryan Kalkbrenner out due to injury. He’s averaged 27.7 minutes, 6.7 points (59% from the floor), 10 rebounds (4 offensive), 2 assists, 1.4 steals, and half a block. He is #1 in the NBA in offensive rebounding rate.

Caleb Houstan has mostly been inactive for the past two weeks, and if he wasn’t, he got a DNP. He hasn’t been on an NBA floor since 12/3.

Jett Howard played in 6 of the Magic’s 8 games, and played 36 minutes - but 33 of those were in 2 games. He shot 30% from the floor (6/20) and 20% (3/15) from three.

Franz Wagner’s ankle will be “re-evaluated” when the Magic return home on 1/4. There is currently no timetable for his return.

Mo Wagner was seen at shoot-around the past two games taking shots, but there is no timetable.

Jordan Poole continues to struggle. He’s averaged nearly 26 mpg in the 7 of the team’s 8 games he played in, shooting 39.3% from the floor, 26.8% from 3, and and 57% from 2. His two point shooting is good, but his shot profile is getting a bit absurd - 67% of his shots have been threes. Poole’s best moments (in GS) as a pro have been accompanied by moderate volume, highly efficient scoring at the rim - that volume is almost gone, and he’s left with high volume, low efficiency self-created threes.

In an over-stuffed Pistons’ rotation, Caris Levert’s minutes are lower than what we’ve classically seen - 19 mpg. He only scored 28 points in these 114 minutes, collecting 14 boards and handing out 11 assists. He struggled to 30.3% from the floor in this two-week stretch.

Tim Hardaway Jr. played in all 8 Nuggets games, and hasn’t missed a game this season. He’s been in and out of the starting lineup, averaging 30.3 minutes and 16 points per game along with 3.4 boards. He shot 44.9% from the floor - 40.8% from three and 55.6% from 2 - continuing his overall season’s hot shooting. TImmy has posted 62.3% true shooting, with a career averaged of 55.4% (he was 57.2% last year).

Duncan Robinson had a little cold spell - making 16 threes on 50 attempts - 32%. As usual, there is little else here.

VLAD GOLDIN PLAYED…54 seconds, and got an assist.

Caris left the Clippers game early in the 2nd half with some sort of knee injury, missed the Lakers game completely, and is out for tonight’s game vs. the Heat.

He didn’t miss KD. He did it on purpose.

Apparently, on the Magic broadcast last night, the broadcast team shared that BOTH Wagner brothers are expected back “before the end of the week”. The Magic have gone .500 since Franz was injured (and sit 4 games over .500 after a poor start and a major recovery that was derailed by Franz’s injury), mostly on the play of Desmond Bane and growth of Anthony Black since Franz’s departure (more on this in a coming companion post on the NBA thread as I continue to wage my “Paolo is not as good as his reputation” war).
