Jaylen Brown - Will Likely Use OV for UM

No way Brown’s coming here unless Levert goes, and even then it might be dicey. just look at the roster and open scholarships. If levert goes, that leaves one open spot. Assuming we don’t fill it and there is no attrition next year, there will be one additional spot open next year. So that would leave two open spots for 2016. One would be point guard, the other for a potential Battle/Langford commitment. What happens with Towns? We’d have to hope that Irvin goes pro, and maybe even Walton. My guess is Levert stays and we get two open spots next year, three if Irvin goes.

@GoodmanESPN: All signs pointing to Caleb Swanigan and Ivan Rabb to California, sources say

If that’s true, it probably takes out Cal from Brown’s list? Not sure, weren’t they talking about a possible 3 player package deal? No word on Brown as of now though, so it’s still a good sign

wouldn’t those two going to Cal make them a bigger player for brown?

Yeah you are probably right. Couldn’t remember how many scholarships they had left at first, but since they have enough, it does look way more appealing for Brown

At the end of the day it’s pretty much every elite players dream to play at UK

That’s not really what I get from that tweet. Seems more like he was just answering a question about Kentucky and one and dones. But he has said on record (whether it’s what actually happens or not) that he isn’t going anywhere with the intention of being a one and done.

Kids say a lot of things. You hope that’s true, because if he actually wants to stay for a second year to develop, Beilein might be the best coach in the nation for that. But, recruits change their mind or say bullshit all the time. Dashawn Hand picked Alabama over Michigan due to academics two years ago.

The mistake a lot of people make is assuming “academics” means “the highest ranked school”. For Hand, the word is Alabama supported him majoring in engineering, whereas Michigan wanted him to do something less demanding. In fact, Michigan’s program is so good…could he have even gotten in, let alone kept up with the workload? That is a completely legitimate reason to pick Alabama over Michigan for “academics” and not be spouting bullshit.

Previous whipping boy (on this topic) Myron Rolle won a Rhodes at FSU, so…

I know a ton of extremely intelligent people (3.9+ GPAs all that stuff) who went into engineering at Michigan and were just trying to survive. It is an extremely difficult program and that’s for the best of the best and those were students that can spend all their time on academics. People spending numerous hours on their work.

So if this guy wanted to major in engineering, then Alabama was a better choice than Michigan.

Also, I wouldn’t be shocked if he is eventually steered away into a new major and the whole we’ll let you major in engineering was just to get him to sign on the dotted line.

so cal is more or less out here with swanigan to MSU. if you want to be the best play against the best and the big ten will be the best conference (maybe acc) next year. big 12 is smoke and mirrors. hopefully jaylen seeking that.

JB watching EG10 (Eron Gordon). Think its pretty obvious the staff knows Caris is gone based in this and the Williams info

mattd… he 2016 tho, no? not that i disagree on caris as he still showing ~20ish in mock drafts

Right…why does watching Eron Gordon play indicate Caris is leaving?

My mistake guys - Gordon is 16

I don’t see Caris leaving. But, until he says he’s not, the staff will keep recruiting. My guess is that that’s why the interest in Williams.

Sane, I believe the Williams interest is there regardless of Caris’ decision. He’s grown a bit, think he’s a legit 6’4 and from what I’ve seen he has a skill set JB really likes.

I think the question is whether Williams’ skillset fits what the team needs? I think Williams is an above average perimeter defender (fills a need), but certainly not a guy that creates for the team or himself (which is the biggest need we currently have other than rebounding). Im a fan of Williams, but I would pass based on Wagner and Robinson being in the mix.

No scholarship available unless Caris goes, though.

MattD…I think Williams is a bird in the hand type of situation. Assuming Caris stays, there is more than enough b/w Derrick, Caris and the last month of the season version of Zak in terms of creating…I know you disagree, but I think JB is more than comfortable with those 3. I’m 100% okay with bringing him on board.

Sane, they can still use Hatch’s scholly…he has the means to pay his own way for a season and he can still be on the team as a walk-on. They won’t medical him as that will end his career as a player.

Austin Hatch will never pay his own way, especially if Beilein has anything to do with it. Only way he would lose his athletic scholarship would be if they decided to use him as a “medical non-counter.” Meaning, he can’t perform to the level athletically that he once could due to injury.

It would be interesting to see how this would all work if it were to happen. Although, the UM doctors know his background, he was still offered a scholarship even with the injury. He could be physically healthy enough according to the doctors based on what they can see because they technically didn’t see him beforehand.
