Yeah, I Listened to that podcast with Woj and Jonathan Givony. Pretty clear it was common knowledge Todd was planning to play in the NBL all along until the pandemic. Now the G League came up with a good offer so he chose that route. Makes sense for him but his commitment To Michigan was just a worse case scenario option.
I probably phrased it wrong, todd may have had some interest in playing cbb. His overall camp never had any interest in it and it was never going happen.
Just a holding place if he never got a pro offer.
Hold on. Wasnât the prevailing sentiment first that he would go overseas? And the reason he didnât sign early was because he was going overseas, and thought that signing early would mess that up some how or was he just using the prospect of signing with UM as a negotiation ploy? Or is this fact just to be ignored all together.
I hadnât heard one person talk about nba connected possibilities until this week. Maybe I just missed the experts on this until now.
But again, if the nba was in play, wouldnât they have been in play all year, not just this week? Wouldnât the discussions have been on going? Did something just develop this week on the nba front that impacts these choices or these deals have been done got a while but just leaked out?
Iâm just trying to figure out which of these guys with stories have the most accurate one. Cause Iâm not one to come easily to believe this stuff just cause somebody writes a story or does a podcast.
Or has a blog.
Thanks
NBL is not the NBA. NBL is the Australian League where RJ Hampton, Ball, etc. went last year.
G League now has stepped up the game to keep those kind of guys stateside (Green, Todd, potentially more).
Iâd also say that Woj and Givony are more plugged in than just doing a podcast or having a blog. Just my 2 cents.
There are certainly different levels of âinsiderâ when it comes to college basketball recruiting.
The NBL is overseas. Thatâs what they were talking about Todd pursuing that option all year long until that pandemic eliminated that possibility.
If you think Woj and Givony are just two random dudes doing a podcast, then I donât know what to tell you. They are beyond plugged in between Wojâs NBA connections and Givonyâs draft and international connections.
Never said they were two random dudes. Instead inquired into whom ever is bring relied upon, to explain the whole story.
Were these two guys the ones that were selling him going overseas in the first?
Are these the guys saying that the reason he isnât going overseas is because of the pandemic?
Have these two guys explained why Todd didnât sign in the first place (back in December well before there were any pandemic concerns) when signing would not have prevented his from going over seas?
And since they are so connected, how is it that the supposed long known prospect of Todd wanting to play in the states in the G league is something that has just become public this week?
The questions arent complicated to answer. I hear guys talk about knowing stuff and being connected (and readers and fans doing the same thing) and most of what they say turns out to be false or after the fact reporting. Especially now, when you get to watch more of these folk on tv because of the shut down. You remember how all the connected nfl people said no way was Harbaugh leaving for college? All of them. And how none of them explained why, despite their impeccable sources, all turned out to be wrong. All according to the masses eminently connected, whatever that is supposed to mean.
Looking forward to what has been said by anyone (especially these two) that is responsive to the questions I asked.
General reference to them being âconnectedâ without more ainât going to cut it.
People at this point in many situations do tend to assert that something "was clear all alongââ as if it actually was clear all along.
Serious question: do you know who Woj is?
You asking me if I know who Woj is?
And if so does Woj know who Juwan Howard is?
Does Woj know that Juwan informed his son that no scholarship was available even though âit was commonly known among nba people that Todd was going to the NBA leagueâ?
But back to your question; âdo I know who Woj is, assuming that knowing him means something. If I have him pegged correctly heâs a guy who ESPN often brings on to talk nba stuff. Kind of chunky guy with glasses, who I assume is paid to talk like he knows the inside scoop, especially so to viewers who arenât capable or interested enough to challenge anything he says. He had every incentive to present himself as a guy who knows stuff. If thatâs the guy, then yeah Iâve seen him on tv, but otherwise have no clue how he decides what he is going to say or how responsible he is when he does speak.
An equivalent might be Adam Schefter, who is a UM guy, another go to guy for the networks and was adamant that Harbaugh was not leaving for UM. And I know has been wrong on many occasions. And donât get it twisted, Iâm not being critical of guys, with supposed connections, who get things wrong. I just know they do.
Personally I follow reporters passionately for two reasons; one because Iâm a sports enthusiast, two because of what I do as a profession which is teach the law of defamation. The latter, often brings me to evaluate the accuracy of reporting, ON ALL OCCASIONS. So whether I know Woj well enough is less significant; I know reporting very well.
Hey DOT, I appreciate your perspective and I want to thank you for your opinion and insight. Many of us are close to the program, players, coaches and families but would never break the trust of things we see, hear and know to be true. There is an unspoken/unwritten loyalty to the truth that canât be shared but I certainly enjoy the banter. I hope you continue to add to this board because I for one value your participation and comments.
Presumably.
Jalen Greenâs been telling everyone all year that heâs going to college too.
It sounds like this G-League select plan is just now really coming into focus. And itâs probably really good timing, as the overseas option looks questionable for this year given the corona virus.
Iâm watching the Presidentâs presser right now. Switching from CNN to MSNBC to Fox just to see how they differ in their coverage OF THE SAME event. For those less curious, the âtruthâ will be what the network makes true. But Iâm a guy who prefers to be accurate in things even if it means accepting information that Iâd prefer not to hear. Thanks
I like respect Dylanâs work and most of the discussions on this board. Not the case in most of these venues.
Yeah, I feel confident he wanted to come here. I think his mom pulled him in a different direction. And look, if heâs going to get paid anything near what Green is going to make, I honestly donât blame her, assuming he can develop his game as successfully there as he could in college. Thatâs not a $40,000 regular G-League deal; itâs real money. I assume if the NBA is putting this type of money into player contracts, theyâll get these kids some strong coaching too.
Iâm not as intensely interested as most of you. But I do cringe when Michigan loses out on players.
That said, as a parent myselfâwith a kid who is an athleteâI am increasingly on the kidsâ and parentsâ side.
Thatâs why I got a little salty about references to âMomma Toddâ early in the week. And why I have less and less patience for fans who are angry or disdainful andâyesâinfer continually that kids, especially the poorer ones, are corrupt.
Itâs a business rife with corruption andâin some ways worseâcontradictions that both kids and coaches have no choice but to negotiate.
When I reflect that âMomma Toddâ is out there wringing her hands and sweating out how to do the best by her kid. . . ultimately having to decide based on the best information she has when the time comes. . . Iâm inclined to give her all the slack in the world. Her sonâwith his one precious life and window to make itâwas not put on this earth to entertain me.
This isnât, btw, a grand indictment of people here; mostly the conversation is respectful and all of you bring insight that I learn from. Just great if it remains that way.
The best thing about message boards is their ability to expose the cores of people. The convenience and anonymity of computers promotes raw expression, especially the dog whistle type.
Did you mean that itâs the worst thing?
Whatâs so racial about the notion of an over-bearing, perhaps manipulative, parent matched with a prodigious child? Some kids get groomed for modeling, acting, beauty pageants, etc. Lots of these parental types across socio-economic lines.

I know a lot of UM fans want to think that there is something exceptional about the university when it comes to academic standards. âWeâre better cause, we went to UM and you didnâtâ otherwise the whole academic superiority construct falls apart.
[/quote]
I am sorry if you sense a lot of âUM fansâ have an academic superiority arrogance about them. And by your later statement, you clarified Alum fans. I am an Alum fan. I truly hope you didnât read arrogance into what I wrote in my response. It was about integrity, not standards. Furthermore, the academic superiority construct as you referred to it, probably stems from UM academic rating, and is not a perception based on how alums feel about the U, nor is it based primarily on academic admission standards, although that may be correlated somehow. There are many other factors involved in the academic rating assessment and it is a persistent rating year after year. There are measures to assess such things. Itâs not a myth, and itâs not unearned. That said, arrogance is repulsive, regardless, and I apologize to you and the forum if i was perceived that way.
