What % of actual big ten starters were four or five stars? Just curious. Feels like the league has plenty of 3 stars starting.
I think it can be agreed upon that we havenāt developed our back of the class recruits.
Jace is only here because of his dad.
Tschetter, maybe develops into a shooting presence. His lack of athleticism is appalling though.
Twill is a 4 year guy that is unreliable and has few strengths.
Right I mean there are a lot more 3 stars than 4 or 5 stars. And the portal is making that even more so cause if thereās a low major that blows up then you can nab him. So that wonāt really tell you anything particularly interesting other than that the B1G has very few highly ranked recruits
You can kind of rule your thumb your way thru the āstarsā in a way that tells you more about the programs the kid might expect to hear from and what his path to the NBA might be, if any.
Letās say thereās 80 high major programs w 13 scholarships each. So thereās call it 250 high major recruits a year in the pre-COVID/transfer/NIL universe. And ofc there was plenty of attrition that had nothing to do w guys getting drafted or graduating so this is probably a bit too stringent, but whatever, nice round number.
The top 40 or so will make the tourney every year, so thereās your top 125.
Working from the other direction, the top 20 or so have at least a 50% chance of ever being drafted by the NBA and that falls to ~15% for the top 50. Thatās just about the number youād expect the top 16 teams to take in a year.
Cautiously jumping back in on this, lol.
Some rough math, with 7 high major conferences and lets say each has 14 teams with 13 scholarships, thatās 1,274 players. With each year the top 125 (5 and 4 star players) x 4 years to fill up a full team, that is 500 players. So 1,274 - 500 means 774 players that are 3 star or lower. And that was assuming no 5 and 4 star players go to mid majors. Extrapolating that back to a per team level that means the average high major school has 5 players that were 5 and 4 star level, if my math is correct which might not be.
There are only 6 high major conferences with a total of 76 teams.
I would guess that, beyond Hunter, there isnāt a Michigan portal guy who the average basketball fan has heard of.
And I donāt see why guys leaving for the NBA, who are projected to get taken in the 1st round, would ever reflect poorly on a program.
Every time I call the athletic department and demand to speak with Coach Howard, the operator just puts me on hold and walks away.
Really? I get put through every time. Weird.
So YOUāRE why the substitution patterns are jacked up!
(I am making a joke not at all giving a serious complaint about substitutions or playing time)
What the f#ck did you just say about my rotations?
You need to erase that dry erase board in your office that has
āPG - Williams
SG - Jace Howard
SF- Jackson
PF - Tschetter
C - Reedā
On it before your next zoom call
Watching The General and The Judge is how I got hooked, as well.
I believe that you were being sincere earlier, but personally I engage in snark to troll myself because I like to be in charge of my own schadenfreude.
Oh, and I always have this image ready to roll out when I get too far out over my skis when posting from raw emotion or isolated anecdotes:
Have we heard if Glenn has packed Tschetter in a suitcase and is taking him with him?
to take baconās format āitās always strange to me when I see this level of naked hostility to our own players from a fanā
Itās not hostile at all. Itās just realistic. I wish the best for Will, but heās over his head in the B1G. Doesnāt mean heās a bad hooper. Just needs to switch levels. Nothing wrong with that.
Itās a bit hostile when you do it over and over again
āI like to be in charge of my own schadenfreudeā is my favorite thing in a while here.
Or people are adding their own tone to the comments. A tone that does not exist on my end.
I guess itās hard not to impute it when you wish heād be thrown off the team once a week or so.
There are lots of less nasty ways to say he wasnāt good this year.
