It makes me wonder if he promises certain kids coaching spots after their professional days are over. Is it against ncaa rules to entice players to stick around by hinting at a later benefit?
Look around at other benches its the norm
This is quite a take
Not sure if I catch your meaning. Obviously it is normal to hire ex players on the staffâespecially qualified ones. It would be entirely different if Izzo was making unrealistic promises to lots of players if he had little intention to keep those promises. That is, it would be one thing to have a normal pattern of hiring ex players. It would be another thing to re-recruit/retain players with false promises. Of course this is hypothetical but it would seem like a violation if a coach mentioned to a high school recruit that he could âenvision him being an assistant coach at MSU some dayâ. I am just wondering if it would be a violation to fill a kids head with that kind of an enticement in order to keep a kid around an extra year or two after they were already on the team.
I thought Winston flopped when he got the three point foul and when he threw his shoulder into Wagner on the baseline and got a foul call, but otherwise donât think he is that much of a flopper. Nothing compared to like Ginobili or Wade anyway.
The truth is, so many of these kids do it. Itâs become an art form. Cassius is no different than so many others in that regard.
X has many things in his bag of tricks too, but Winston has mastered the off-arm as well as the kicking of the leg on the jumper that got X early and jumping into the chest.
The three point foul call is fair, but in the second one, Wagner put both hands on Winston as he drove. Just smart to exaggerate the contact there, IMO.
Yes. Whether you choose to blame the refs, the conference, the sports or whatever, the bottom line is that the refs are a risk to be managed, and the best in the biz very often accomplish this by bullying those refs like Izzo does. Howard should have a strategy. Doesnât have to by bullying but it has to be something.
Yes, nine more fouls than Teske, and that had something to do with the way the game was called, too, didnât it. Donât want to blame the officials because we were beaten by a better team today, but I was a little hot watching the way that game was being called today.
Izzo proves that bullying the refs works as a strategy. If you donât want to bully the refs, fair enough but find another way to manipulate them.
his use of the arm-bar is a far more common issue
I dont think he flops, per say, but he definitely embellishes. And he embellishes both foul-worthy contact and non-foul-worthy contact with his practiced head toss. Also frustrating because he has such a nasty stiff-arm.
Itâs all both âcraftyâ and incredibly annoying.
Or maybe just maybe when a coach recruits a kid he tells him he will help him achieve their goals no matter what they are⌠if they are to get to the NBA then so be it. If it is to get an education and become a doctor, lawyer, teacher or astronaut so be it. Or if it is to some day coach so be it.
Is not a coaches job to mentor and teach young people so as to prepare them for their next stage in life?
Heâs responding intelligently to the facts on the ground. Not his fault they are what they are.
âIs not a coaches job to mentor and teach young people so as to prepare them for their next stage in life?â
Ideally but the hypothetical I am putting forth would be considered something different.
Yes, I believe it is a coachâs job to lead his players in the present, to teach them the skills they need to succeed in their sport and in life and to prepare them for future success in whatever path they choose to follow and wherever that path takes them.
I agree with the comments about how to stop them. On a day like that with Winston just dealing thereâs not a ton you can do, but I did think that in the first five or so minutes of the game MSU made some difficult long twos, Winston included, and that that forcing them to shoot those all day would be a good plan. Havenât listened to the press conference yet, but interested to hear thoughts on how Howard adjusted and whether maybe the default drop coverage should have been tried for longer.
