Part of it I think is that while obviously the name was novel when Rose hit the national spotlight, the name SOUNDED totally unremarkable, right? I know the truth of the matter but I’m honestly sort of shocked that he was the first.
At the time, Penny (and I guess his parents) got a ton of sort of low-key racist cr*p (“hur hur what did she spell Anthony phonetically”) for his name, so not shocked it didn’t catch on (we still see a decent number of “Shaq’s” right?)
