College Basketball Open Discussion

Problem for UNC is that all of the good big hires have enormous buyouts since they just got to their mid-level jobs. So an insular hire would make sense

There’s not a Roy at Kansas equivalent this time, but I feel like going from poaching your coach from another blue blood to hiring the UNC guy at UNCG would be fairly underwhelming

Enormous buyouts might not thwart UNC; frankly, with a program that rich and prestigious, it probably shouldn’t. If I were a UNC fan I wouldn’t want to settle on some mid-table coach just because the right guy had a big buyout.

Guys! I usually try to add some discussion in these threads but I can’t today. I refuse to be tricked on the worst internet day of the year. I’ll be full-go tomorrow!

If some TT guys hit the transfer portal I’m interested. Terrence Shannon in particular, believe he’s a Chicago kid

Only a 4 million buyout will do that.

Huh, I was led to believe that Beard would never go to a school that rents their practice facilities.

It occurs to me that UNC, being a “blue-blood” and a “name your price” type of place, probably doesn’t need to worry about a buyout for a freshly hired mid-tier up-and-comer.

At UNC, you don’t have to ask “who’s the hot coach.” Not really. You should ask, “Excepting for the obvious non-options (coach K, Juwan who is at his dream college job), if I were to pick any basketball coach in the country for my team, who would I want?”

Names that are readily dismissible for programs like Indiana become obvious targets. Mark Few? Scott Drew? A boatload of cash? Why not?

Scott Drew is definitely one that might make sense.

UNC basketball is worse than Michigan football. The coach probably needs some weird tie to Dean Smith like UM needs someone that sniffed Bo’s jock.

Rasheed Wallace to UNC!

I could see Jerod Haase in the mix for UNC. He played for Roy at Kansas and served as an assistant on his bench at Kansas and UNC. Might be a risky hire but Haase has recruited quite well at Stanford.

File this under “least surprising thing ever.”

Well, Roy got to keep the UNC consecutive Tournaments made streak alive thanks to the COVID season. That still annoys me. Is Matt Doherty available?

A tweet announcing this on the UNC twitter account would be the greatest April Fool’s prank in college sports history.

Their streak isn’t even crazy long right? They missed in like 2011 when Ed Davis was the star?
