Doherty’s tenure remains one of the most mind-blowing things to me. How do you fail that badly at UNC, without any NCAA issues?

Tar Heel buddies believe Hubert Davis will get promoted.

2010, you’re right. I thought I saw a graphic on CBS that showed them at 20 years or so, but that must have been other schools at the top of the graphic in the 20+year range. UNC was on the list of most consecutive made though.

2010, so only 10.

I can’t even imagine how salty I’d be if I was a Texas Tech fan right now. The Beilein hire hurt a lot. Moving to an in-state, in-conference “big brother” rival would be absolutely brutal.

No one has said Beilein. :grinning:

Feels like the only job left for him is Cincinatti. Think there’s a decent chance he never coaches again now.

How do we know Roy’s retirement isn’t an April Fool’s prank?

This sucks.

I wouldn’t mind Beilein at Texas Tech. They need it, I feel bad for them.

Well the carousel isn’t over. TTU has to hire someone.

I’m sure it’s brutal for TT, but he is a UT alum, so in the back of their minds they had to know it was a possibility.

Turgeon to TT?

At this point in time (not taking into account money) going from Texas Tech to Texas isn’t an upgrade really

I don’t think it’s about money. He’s going to his alma mater, like Juwan did. That’s understandable.

That’s a big factor though. They’re the biggest athletic department in the county which has a lot of benefits outside of pay and at least have a history of being good. TTU has never been good outside of a couple Knight years and now Bears.TTU is only a good job because of his presence

How is it not an upgrade? It seems like an upgrade in literally every way.

Academics, prestige, program history, location, etc.

Fair points everyone I just was looking at it through the last 5 years which team has done better, but yeah considering everything else it is an upgrade now that I think about it

Texas Tech has done well over the last five years because of Chris Beard, not because it is TTU.

The upside of coaching Texas is so much higher.

Sure, but I don’t think that TT is gonna hire a guy from a job that JB probably wants (close to Ann Arbor and the ability to compete at a high level).

UT is objectively a better job, but if Beard hadn’t gone to school there, I’m not sure he would have made the jump. He had something cooking at TT, and had turned down other offers. (Was he the mystery Final Four coach we contacted?) Leaving TT for an in-state rival is about the worst way to go out and will burn all bridges there.

But being a UT alum is a game-changer. The chance to go back to your alma mater and lead them to success is a dream.
