I think it’s important to remember that KU and UK were both hit with postseason bans thirty-odd years ago. Duke and UNC may be immune from NCAA punishment (the former perhaps even from investigation), but I wouldn’t be surprised if other notables in college basketball are hit hard. We shall see.
Look for Duke to be investigated for extra benefits to Zion Williamson’s parents as Zion now has to testify under oath to a grand jury I believe about the matter.
Don’t expect Zion to ever testify.
He has to. He was subpoenaed unless he wants to go to jail.
This case will get settled before any testimony happens. The group that felt they were stiffed will get a percentage or a dollar settlement and Zion will keep coach K clean.
If you say so.
Coach K would need to go through the cleaners several dozen times before he even got started.
Ten videos in so far. Was hoping for a bit better reception to the series, but I think this is one of the better videos I’ve done to date. Hope some of you are finding it useful.
I’ve been enjoying them. No basketball to test this out but I’m sure it will make games even more interesting to watch.
This serves as a reminder for me, personally. Glad you posted it. I follow you, but haven’t seen these in my timeline.
Saw this tweeted out by Fox Sports. Interesting statement on the program that Coach Beilein re-built/Coach Howard is continuing.
Also, before this recent era, when was the last time UM/MSU were both strong at the same time … for more than a season here or there?
Literally never for msu and um, which is odd because the state used to produce a ton more talent
Seeing that graphic has got to make a lot of Indiana fans unhappy.
I hope that Michigan picks up on this subtlety and does just this
Considering how many guys we have that left early, us being there is damn impressive.
Other teams are getting 4 years out of guys that we get 2, maybe 3 years if we are lucky.
I don’t really think pros leaving early is a problem specific to Michigan. It isn’t like any program has pros hang around for 4 years very often.
Guys like Cassius Winston and Zavier Simpson, yeah… they are 6-foot PGs.
So far so good.
Oh, I dunno–Michigan has lost a lot of wonderful players early over the last ten years. Not a problem specific to Michigan, but certainly one that has Michigan has dealt with repeatedly. And if it’s impact players we’re talking. . .
Yeah, Michigan has lost players early to the NBA Draft. The point was that just about every team who has won 250+ games over the last decade has lost players early to the NBA Draft. It is a college basketball thing, not a Michigan thing.
Yes, every team with success has lost players to the NBA, but most would argue that no program has lost as many players that were not high level recruits coming into college. Since we are comparing Michigan to State lets looks at numbers:
Michigan State:
8 players have played double digit games in the NBA in the past 10 years
Left early from college:
- Deyonta Davis – 1 year
- Jaren Jackson – 1 year at MSU
- Miles Bridges – 2 years
- Gary Harris – 2 years
I believe that each of these guys who left early were 5 star recruits
Stayed all four years:
- Denzel Valentine
- Adrienne Payne
- Draymond Green
- Bryn Forbes (transfer but they got the max number of years from him)
Michigan:
12 players have played a role on an NBA team (double digit games played outside of Iggy)
Left early from college:
- Iggy
- Poole
- Wagner
- DJ Wilson
- Mcgary
- GR3
- Stauskas
- Burke
- Hardaway
- Darius Morris
McGary, GR3, Iggy and maybe Poole are the only guys that seemed destined for only a year or two at Michigan based on recruiting profile – this is arguable though
Stayed all 4 years:
- Levert – did we really get any full healthy years out of him? Sophomore year?
- Walton
- Robinson (similar to Forbes we got the max)
I think it is pretty easy to conclude from this that Michigan has:
- Put a bunch of players in the NBA - more than most (and MSU)
- Not gotten the number of high/5* recruits that MSU has but succeeded despite that
- Missed out quality years of college basketball from some of its best players that were originally considered “4-year players” - Most of MSU’s guys who left for the draft early were high level recruits that werent expected to stay 4 years
- Not had the luxury of many 4 year players that played in the NBA - I would even argue that Lever would have left early if it wasnt for injuries
You are right that losing guys to the NBA isnt a Michign thing but it is something that has disproportionately effected Michigan
