Moving away from the soap opera a bit, I had a chance to watch Houston last night. Those guys are absolutely tenacious defensively. What’s most interesting is that they play a heavy doubling, trapping scheme that forces bad decisions but also gives up some easy looks. I think that if they wanted to, they could change to a “guard your yard” philosophy and still be the top kenpom defence in the country. A lack of offensive diversification may hurt them in March, but they are fun to watch.

Yep, they give up assisted baskets and 3PA obviously but if you are 1st in eFG%, 3rd in TO Rate, 1st in 2P%, 1st in Block Rate and 8th in 3P% defense… Stick with what’s working:
