hiring Pope at Kentucky is like when Michigan hired Brady Hoke. Former player (Hoke was obviously former assistant) that has had some success and been working their way up the ladder, but their biggest credential towards being hired is being the former player (or assistant). They would not get offered a similar position at another big name school.
I mean Pope was a middling potential candidate for us this year. It’s not like if the Kansas job opened tomorrow they would have been going after him.

Apparently one of the top candidates for BYU is a UNLV assistant coach
now that would be a change in recruiting dynamic for them. Instead of trying to lure recruits to Sin City, they will be looking for the kids that won’t even drink caffeine.
