I’m interested in interviewing you to be the head coach of our basketball program

UTEP, Navarro College, Coppin State, Central Michigan and Oregon. What a career.

He had 19 points in the CMU loss and Michigan will see him again at Oregon next year :upside_down_face:

I’m not interested in him being our head coach, but possibly our general manager. I am actually really curious how a school like Michigan handles the chaos of the portal. Do they have a staff of people who are constantly tracking players at all levels before they enter the portal, after the end of the portal, etc? Determining which names get sent to the coaches for evaluation? What are the coaches giving their criteria to the staff for this? In professional leagues, there are teams of scouts and administrators. Tracking players on the waiver, wire, free agents, practice squads, minor leagues, etc. Wondering if this is an area where Michigan could improve. They need a person like Boutros to be scouring the internet for potential players and sending them to the coaches for consideration

Don’t worry, Michigan Athletics has a really good process for background checks… Oh, wait, never mind

In all seriousness, yes there are people doing this. Some staffs are bigger but Michigan’s is about normal sized. I would think a lot of the administrative part of keeping tabs on new players falls on Jay Smith.

There are also lots of scouting services that have simple ratings and analytics etc. for guys in the portal.

It’s a lot to keep up with in some sense, but maybe even a smaller pool than recruiting HS players over multiple classes.

I mean I will gladly do this if someone gives me Jay Smith’s phone number
