You guys are too late. Illinois already is hanging a banner (they almost won the Big Ten)

Michigan’s last 12 games: lose 2, win 3, lose 2, win 3, lose 2… Time to run off 3 straight again

Getting to Sunday is probably enough to get an invite, but then losing their next two (to follow the pattern) means a loss on Sunday plus a one-and-done in the NCAAT.

didn’t think about that. I think I’d still take it all things considered.

Everyone knows regular season patterns only hold through the Big Ten Tournament and then reset for the NCAAs. DUH

Looks like they’ll just have to play the student managers after the BTT and intentionally lose again, that way we get the 2nd loss out of the way and win three in the NCAAT!

Not really, partially because Spiro first paints Stu as a Michigan guy, which pre-allows the biased sludge to follow.

What stuck out to me most, though, is something that on the surface seems perfectly fine. It’s something that I see quite a bit from Sparties online and you might even call this move The Valenti.

Spiro went out of his way to complement Beilein. I don’t care to rummage through Spiro’s past videos and tweets to see if this is a retroactive take or if he felt this way at the time. It doesn’t matter. He then baits Michigan fans further by asserting that Michigan isn’t a blue blood but is right at that level below your Dukes and Kentuckys. Lastly, he uses the difference between this level (ie. Top Ten program nationally?) and the level the current team is at the moment to criticize Juwan.

It’s a completely fact-free criticism without nuance. It also feeds right into Michigan fans’ anxiety about the direction of the program. My kneejerk reaction is to feel defensive in a “no one gets to insult my family but me” kind of way.

Lastly this criticism is juxtaposed next to Spiro’s assessment of Sparty, since they are making the tournament again and the streak lives. Despite being guided by a Hall of Fame coach, making the dance is apparently the program’s only goal. Low expectations for Spiro’s team, which they meet, thus determining a successful season vs. high expectations for Michigan, which they didn’t come close to achieving and thus determining that they have had a disastrous season.

JMO but I never imagined that guy would be discussed on this board and it’s disheartening

How did stu respond to all that?

I don’t even know who this is and I’m refusing to look it up.

We are allowed to have interesting discussions about Big Ten basketball here instead of discussions about bad takes about Big Ten basketball here. Just a heads up!

If only this theory was backed up by a previous Michigan team that also was on a weird streak pattern at the end of the year, which ended up being broken in the NCAA Tourney… oh wait…

 very common amongst MSU and B1G fans in generals.

Yes, everyone misses one of the most gifted and unassailable college coaches of all time, we miss him kicking your @sses. You’re actually really special for thinking highly of Beilein and contrasting him to our current staff.

Beilein lost regularly to MSU and only started evening it out at the end, fwiw. So far, I think that Juwan is more or less even-steven? Very few people are ever terribly interested in the facts. The streak that they might be less interested in discussing is all our Sweet 16s in a row; stat that they can’t come close to.

Yeah, Michigan/MSU is 4-4 since Juwan was hired. Each team has won on their home floor.

Just the fact that I can, off the top of my head, guess that Juwan has more tourney success than all of the other B1G coaches combined during his tenure means they should all just shut the f*ck up about giving us advice on who our coach should be.

By my count, Beilein ended up 9-14 against MSU after starting 0-4. Amazing how close it’s been ever since that 2011 win in East Lansing.

Well Beilein was building up from nothing when Izzo’s program was arguably stronger. Juwan hasn’t faced the best MSU teams frankly. But he did beat Cassius Winston and doesn’t have a losing record. Though still should not have lost to them in '21. That was a lost opportunity to sweep.

And it was 9-11 before his final season. Three losses were we led in the 2nd half. Ugh.
