Kordell to Westbrook???

Team I am upset if they ever win:

  1. MSU
  2. Osu

Teams I cheer against usually with rare exceptions:
3. Rutgers
4. Wisconsin except the Kaminsky teams
5. Northwestern
6. Illinois (only just moved into this tier this year)

Don’t care whether they win most years but depending on roster could swing either direction:
7. Iowa
8. Indiana
9. Maryland
10. Penn State
11. Minnesota
12. Purdue

Kinda root for them:
13. Nebraska

wow we are far apart on Rutgers. you would even root for the boll weevil Gregory Gard over them? that is a bridge I can never cross

Good call on Nebrasketball. The only thing that keeps me from jumping fully on the train is knowing that the football fans who I can’t stand are just silently waiting to come out of the woodworks.

That Kaminsky team plus willingness to see what it looks like post Davison plus cowardice is what’s keeping them from number 1. They exist to ruin basketball.

Crean is too goofy to be evil for some reason to me. Like he’s a cartoon character who’s just too comically out there to take seriously. He berated our damn assistant coach completely inappropriately on what I’m pretty sure was national television and I was just like “Oh that silly Crean is at it again with his shenanigans.” Not saying this is rational, but when my thoughts on other schools are the topic you can throw rationality out the window

I hate Rutgers. Just can’t stand them. Don’t like that people freak out over them being decent for two years. I like when bad teams stay bad

Steve Pikiell is the 4th best coach in the Big Ten

Yes this is just an attempted triggering

I can’t hate Indiana as much as I should. Nor Wisconsin. Tiers:

GO STRAIGHT TO HECK: MSU

YOU GET ONE PIT STOP ON THE WAY: OSU

NOT A RIVALRY: Illinois

REALLY SHOULD HATE THEM MORE: Indiana, Wisconsin

LOSE WAY TOO OFTEN THERE: Penn State, Iowa

COMPLETELY INDIFFERENT: everyone else save for Purdue, Maryland once the Turg is flushed

FINE: Purdue.

*NOTE: been meaning to make a game at the RAC, hopefully this year. Rutgers is on upgrade watch to FINE.

To be fair though, Cody Zeller drove me nuts. Over and over again refs rewarded that one bullshit move of his where it looked like he was nuzzling the defender’s armpit. And he looked a lot like Peyton Manning.

The ultimate crime, bearing any resemblance at all to Peyton Manning.

I won’t bother doing a whole list but my hiiiiighly unpopular opinion is that I really don’t care about OSU in the slightest outside of the football rivalry, basically right in the middle of the pack. Also I kinda came to not mind baby Pitino all that much, probably because he never had Minnesota good enough for me to get upset about it.

Illinois can go right behind MSU though. Underwood is just the worst.

Purdue is fine, so is Rutgers. Fran is hilarious and I enjoy that team’s vibe in a, “is it ironic or not?” kind of way.

Pitino’s odious personal conduct plus nepotism plus incompetence made him an incredible villain.

I LOVED watching that Indiana team go down to Cuse that year. Zeller unable to make elbow jumpers and even refusing to shoot them by the end. I think Christian Watford was the only player that seemed to notice they were going to lose.

Plus just that dumb look on his face the whole time.

I’m glad someone else was brave enough to say it first, because I sure didn’t want to. But I feel the same way. I actually really appreciated some of his pressers.

I’m laughing at how completely contradictory all of our views are on some teams/coaches. It’s interesting how different stuff impacts different peoples’ opinions. I love hearing what you guys have to say though.

I think that was it for me too to some extent. I also realize him getting jobs that he hasn’t earned is a perfectly good reason not to like him, but what does he do in those scenarios? Not take the job on principle?

I do still really dislike Pitino Sr. for obvious reasons though.

I also think it’s funny that imo my Minnesota take is probably the most boring one in there and yet it’s generated 100% of the responses :man_shrugging:

Here is my take on OSU at #2.

Ohio State is historically a top-10 men’s basketball program by many measurements. It has a ton of success, banners, Final Fours, wins, etc. But its fans don’t even notice. It’s barely a distraction after football season. They have longer threads on linebacker recruiting in March than on hoops.

Even their home court is a testament to indifference. It is cavernous and ugly and devoid of character. It is named “Value City Arena.” It boasts the largest seating capacity in the B1G to literally no effect. Say what you will about MSU – and I say a lot – but the Breslin Center is an elite college hoops venue.

Yet despite a complete lack of atmosphere and support, the OSU program rolls on, often dominantly. It is continuous proof of the inevitability of athletic success at OSU.

If we were just talking about the Holtmann era (and the Gard era at Wisconsin) then perhaps I would flip them. Gard is a coprophagous insect while Holtmann has no banners and some scrumptious tournament failures. His tenure has been more in line with what OSU truly deserves as a program. He and his program are not so scary, especially with Juwan leading Michigan.

But I remember Thad Matta absolutely destroying late-stage Amaker and Early JB in that big stupid building. Peak Matta was a terror on the court with his beet-red face and his chewing gum flying everywhere. I saw them hang 12 banners and it barely registered with their fans. The only time they ever surfaced was if OSU beat Michigan again to crow “just like football!” After all, Matta’s tenure overlapped oh so nicely with Jim Tressel swinging the gridiron pendulum massively in the Buckeyes’ favor – a tick that still has not tocked, nearly 20 years later.

Funny, as a more recent fan, I don’t mind OSU as much either. But I HATE Illannoy. And MSU. I also liked Pitino and I like Rutgers. Seems like @Mdemorest4 and I are similarly situated. Wonder if we are demographically similar and started our fandoms at about the same time.
