It’s like, we want to believe Painter is a great coach because he seems like a pretty likable person and if we can’t win the league, we can stomach him winning a lot more than the other options available. But it’s hard to keep the faith. His results just say “pretty good.”

I’m just overcompensating too if I’m being honest. My take is very reactionary and based on others’ love of him. I don’t want my obnoxious ranting to come off like I think he’s terrible. He’s still, what, top 4 in the Big Ten? I agree with pretty good.

Worth remembering he was an extremely improbable shot away from a final four not long ago. If that doesn’t happen the narrative is mostly quiet.

I mean, I don’t think anyone is saying that he’s bad, just that we overrate him a little. One FF would help but wouldn’t totally dispel that. (Even Rick Barnes has made one.) Not managing to win any hardware this year when it was there for the taking is tough.

They just got worse and worse as the season went on, it was amazing to watch. You thought the slump had to stop at some point, “at least they’re grinding out wins”. No, they’re just playing worse than they did yesterday.

Guess Izzo is going to be busy in the portal looking for bigs.
He should be able to get any he wants once he explains how they will be part of a 4 man rotation and get as many as 12 minutes of playing time.
