I don’t see how Kofi/Keegan/Johnny could guard Hunter/EJ/Ivey.
NOBODY comes into Jersey Mike’s Arena and comes out victorious!
With losses to Lafayette, Maryland and Michigan right?
I was thinking about this as I woke up this AM and I don’t really think this is that hot of a take and probably pretty spot on. Is there higher end talent on other teams? Sure. But for how the pieces fit together and the depth of the 3rd/4th pieces, I think this is right. Purdue is probably the answer with Ivey/Edey/Trevion/Sasha, but the fact that Edey and Trevion are basically one person doesn’t help them. ILL has struggled to be healthy but you could certainly make a case for Curbelo/Kofi/Plummer/Frazier.
If you look back to last year’s Michigan team you can see why this is important. Michigan had the best collection of 4 pieces that just fit together which made them so hard to defend. When Dylan talks about how “well scouted” the league is, if your 3rd/4th option have deficiencies, it makes teams easier to defend. When Michigan last year had Livers as a secondary option alongside Franz and Hunter that put so much stress on the defense. Rutgers is a tier lower in terms of raw talent to last years Michigan team, but I think that general idea is why Rutgers has found some success this year. That and for whatever reason, Jersey Mike’s Arena is a tough place to play.
Guys…we have nothing to worry about with Rutgers. We aren’t ranked in the top 25! Thus their magical powers won’t work on us. They will take one look at our ranking and turn into a pumpkin.
Rutgers is definitely on a heater and playing well, but the four games before this streak included losses to NW, Maryland and Minnesota with a 2-point win over Nebraska.
Mulcahy is 7-11 from three over the last four games and 14-of-50 from three before then.
Wisconsin and Illinois shot 10-of-42 from three.
Harper is tough because he goes through stretches where he’s banking in threes and making everything and then stretches where he can’t make a shot.
I’m not completely sure what to make of them but that game last night had me worried about Illinois (why isn’t Trent Frazier looking for his shot?) and impressed by Cliff Omoruyi’s development.
Yeah I just think about RU’s start to last season where everyone thought they had turned a corner and would be a pretty good team. Turns out, they were shooting far better than they ever had before and when they came back to earth, returned to the scrappy tough-on-d-very-limited-on-o team they actually were.
I just see this as another streaky time for them. They are shooting better from 3 than they had been and it won’t last. They are an older team and their guys are who they are. Their home court advantage is very real though.
They were also a hair away from taking out #2 seed Houston and advancing to the sweet sixteen.
And scored two points in the final five minutes
Doesn’t really discount what he just said. They are a good not great team. Can beat or lose to anyone. They muck games up and Houston gladly obliges with that type of game
Weird that this is a press release?
It looked pretty bad when it happened and he went straight to the locker room. But what’s the point of a press release that doesn’t say anything?
Really wish we could have that Minny game back…
PSU could put a little streak together here. Blowing out Minnesota today then go to Maryland before home games against Northwestern and Nebraska.
OSU, Illinois and Purdue are their own tier at this point.
Wisconsin … I don’t know what to say but let’s say they are No. 4 despite the EM stats.
Who is the fifth-best team in the Big Ten?
