Is this a congratulations or condolences scenario?

Eisley interviewed for eastern Michigan opening

Howard don’t do that to yourself.

But not really a surprise he wants a head job. I imagine he always saw it as a 2 or 3 year stop at Michigan. I wish somewhere else had given him a shot

You’d hope he could do better, yeah.

Top 5 is way more important than top 10. In terms of projection the 9/10 guys barely matter. Unless there is a Kentucky line change situation or someone finally brings Grinnell to the D1 level.

He’s from Detroit. He has 2 years of success with Juwan plus NBA coaching. Recruit metro Detroit well and he could be successful.

Yeah, I think EMU is a crummy job but he wouldn’t have to move and already has ties to the local recruiting grounds. Plus, he is great friends with one of the best young coaches in the game. Eisley has the potential to better than others there.

With regards to Eisley and EMU the risk is that if you do not do well you may never get another HC job. Seems like the job to take if you think you may not get an offer elsewhere any time soon. I would imagine sticking at UM, though, he could probably get a better job over the next 2 years or so.

Eisley is not exactly young and EMU could be a great move for him. It is a hard place
to win but I think that might have good ingredients to pull it off. He is from Detroit and knows the area, with a few good down transfers he might start winning soon.

Eisley is 48 which is roughly the median age for D1 coaches.

And while he might be able to pull it off at EMU for various reasons, it is probably one of the worst jobs in mid major D1. I mean sure it is better than some place like Houston Baptist, but their only 2 tournament appearances in the last 30 years were Earl Boykin’s sophomore and senior seasons in the 90s.

I’d file Eisley at EMU under the if anyone can win there it could be him, but it is such a graveyard that even a good coach is likely to struggle there. Since Ben Braun left in 1996 to go to Cal, they have not had a head coach get another D1 HC job. It’s sort of like if you go there and struggle for 4 or 5 years it might be the end of your HC dreams.

This is a great point. Some jobs are stepping stones. Some are dead ends. Eastern is the latter

Honestly so many of the mid majors are just a crap shoot. You probably want to take the job of a guy who just got plucked to a big school than one that’s moribund though.

No such thing as a bad interview. Practice makes perfect.

I am currently learning this the hard way

So Potter, Trice, and Ford are all out. No Wisconsin team filled with 25 year olds. Davison is actually pretty young for his grade, only turning 22 this month.

For people curious, which I think is most of us, Torvik has Wisconsin 71st right now with no seniors back. Adding Davison gets them to… 59th. It only makes their projected DEff better, not OEff
