I guess now I’ll watch:

Detroit Pistons first time All-Star Jalen Duren has accepted an invitation to participate in the 2026 NBA Slam Dunk contest in Los Angeles, sources tell ESPN. Duren joins Lakers center Jaxson Hayes and Spurs rookie Carter Bryant in the contest field. Detroit Pistons first time All-Star Jalen Duren has accepted... - ESPN http://espn.com/app

Eh, the Dunk contest has been dead for years since Gordon/Lavine dunk contest. VJ Edgecombe would’ve been a great participant for the dunk contest, but he turned it down. I blame LBJ for turning down the dunk contest early in his career, which led to this.

it’ll be mentioned in the first sentence of his obit someday. history will not judge him kindly

My favorite ever was when Allan Houston went as a late substitute and he did the most hilarious dunk contest dunk of all time. Just stood under the rim, bounced the ball off his head, and caught and dunked.

Aaron Gordon was robbed

It was dead way before that but they revived it for a moment. But, I’ll enjoy seeing what Duren can do. I think he’s more of a power dunker than a mid-air creator, so I don’t expect him to win it. I think Ausar or Ron would both do better but they didn’t enter. Duren is the first all-star in a while who’s doing it, so props to him.

Gordon is an exception to this but I generally thing bigs make pretty uninspiring dunk contest guys

of course you can dunk, your standing reach touches the rim!

I thought Javale McGee was decent and at least creative.

Yeah. McGee, Gordon, Blake, Shawn Kemp, and even Dwight did some solid stuff but the 6’7” and under crowd are in general more impressive with what they’re able to do.

I don’t think Javale was good. He dunked two balls, yay.

Blake and Kemp are like the two best in-game dunkers since ‘Nique so they’re in their own little world there.

He dunked a ball in two different baskets. That was impressive.

Two baskets! Gimmick! Disqualifying!

I like this trade for Memphis?

That makes it more likely that Ja will get traded.

the major obstacle to trading Ja is not their desire to do so

(I think this trade is good for all involved, but curious to see Lauri/JJJ fit)

It seems like it may be a while before (if?) Utah gets good so those picks could be nice. JJJ and Lauri playing the same position makes this interesting, as well.
