naively, you’d expect that the Vegas spread pro-rated for the number of minutes left in the game should be the difference between the two teams over the rest of the game.
instead what you see is that the more a team is losing/winning, the better/worse it performs vs the spread. if you’re winning by a lot, you perform much worse than the spread. if you’re losing a lot, you perform much better than the spread. what basketball dorks call “the rubber band effect”.
each box in the plot shows the amount team B will outperform the spread given a point difference and a number of minutes left in the game.
Really happy for Duncan making the most of his chance to play. He’s 13-17 from three in the series…which is insane. Jimmy Butler is in playoff Godzilla mode, but Duncan is having himself a series too.
