You would think, but I generally don’t see much of that from Zach. This is the kind of thing that Sam or perhaps even Dot would typically clarify or comment on.
Turell was invited to the G-league Elite. At least he was according to the list. That’s huge for a DIII guy! Not too many Duncan Robinson guys out there!
Ernie, you need to go knock on Zach’s door to get to the bottom of this. You’re the investigator this board needs right now.
The truth is, if I had his phone number, I’d give him a call! I’m not on twitter or insta so, I’d have to call. Now, if he lived in GR, maaaaybe I’d go knock on his door. I’m actually pretty proud of myself, though, for not knocking on my Kobe Bufkin connection’s door when everyone was speculating!
Judging from being on too many boards, it just seems like a lot of people are assuming that since we (a) know about Moussa and (b) know about the full G League combine, that no confirmation on Caleb means he didn’t get it. Given (a) Caleb never announced his draft declaration, (b) he’s started to move into people’s mocks, and (c) the fact that a full 2/3 of the NBA Combine invites are still undisclosed, it just still seems way more likely than not that he got it.
I agree. I think a fair amount points to him having been invited to the draft combine. I’m sure all of the invites have gone out or the G-league wouldn’t have put out their list. I’m sure the order is a. Combine invites, b. G-league Elite invites. But, knowing how quiet Caleb is, he may have/probably has gotten the invite and just didn’t advertise it.
…by the Illini board as usual!
Unlikely chance given the situation, but maybe he’s heard enough already on feedback that he doesn’t see himself as a 1st round pick and that won’t really change in the next 2-3 weeks.
If that’s his criteria, maybe he declined the G league invite knowing that he wasn’t leaving school unless he was firmly in the 1st. He’d be silly to decline an actual combine invite, to be clear.
Again, it’s really unlikely, just thinking outside the box.
Considering it’s the top 100 or so prospects that get invited to either camp and where he’s been on big boards all year, his absence from the G-League Elite Camp list to me means it’s far more likely Caleb declined a GLEC invite than didn’t get an invite to either camp. And actually being invited to the Combine still seems fairly likely.
Meanwhile, nothing against Zach, it doesn’t seem likely he’d have the fact that Caleb got neither first.
Just talking out loud, I’d guess conservatively the chance he got no invite to be 10%, 40% GLEC, 40% Combine? So, I’d still only have him like 20% to get no invitation if we found out no GLEC. Which we didn’t even find out, just that he isn’t on the attendees list. Seems totally plausible he’d just decline considering it makes it unlikely he’d get drafted.
There are only four projected first round choices who have been listed publicly leaving potentially 28 more, and there are fourteen second round projections listed. A lot of this just hasn’t been made public yet.
Good for Moussa and Eli. I hope Eli gets at least a contract invite to training camp. IMO Caleb will be back. Dylan be ready to work on vacation.
Yeah, I think the most likely situation is it hasn’t been published yet and he’s been invited to the combine, not G league.
But I do think these guys have gotten some feedback already (Hunter mentioned as much on his media tour of late), and if that feedback is showing that he is nowhere close to the arbitrary “range” he wants, then maybe he thinks nothing can elevate him 30+ spots.
Thanks for that. Interesting.
Agreed w Ian. Sam seems to like to let his guys chase their own sources. Which IMO is good practice. You want different credible people saying the same thing.
OK but you pool what you know and have your own internal vetting. Or should. Information borg.
On3 now reporting that Caleb got the NBA invite.
LETS GO CALEB!!!
League that man!!!
Love this response. We need to support our guys more! Go crush it Caleb!
Well it looks like we just may have 2 open Schollies now. Wish only the best for Eli,Moussa and Caleb during the combines. Anyways I trust Juwan to figure it out.
Yeah, he’s probably not a guy you’d expect to play as a rookie. Diabate may never put it together, but he isn’t drawing dead at being a starting center, which is rare in the Big 10. Draymond is the only Big 10 starting center in the NBA right now. Moussa could get there in 4 or 5 years because he isn’t too slow (like most Big 10 centers) and has upside. He also might not stick in the league.
