2022 NBA Draft Discussion

Yeah, I think his best case scenario is the PF/C hybrid type player like Siakam. Where they can play C in a pinch, but can shoot enough to play the 4. I don’t know if he has the feel for the game to get there, but he’ll definitely be an intriguing prospect for someone to take a 2nd round flyer on.

I agree with him, I think people are too down on Jaden Ivey. Pistons are in need of athleticism and Ivey has that in spades. Cade dishing it out to Ivey in space so that he can run at the rim sounds pretty neat.

We may also have zero.

We may, but I would bet, and I don’t like losing money, that Juwan has a lot more information about the possibilities/probabilities of whether we’ll have one, two, or zero open scholarships to fill than any of us do.

Is JJJ a center or PF? I know Adams plays a fair amount of minutes there for the Grizz. In any case, I would put him in the center-like position in the NBA

I have big concerns but big hopes for Ivey. He could be anywhere from a bust to an all star. But I just keep thinking about how dangerous he is gonna be attacking closeouts and in the open court. I think it outweighs my concerns about his decision making and passing. His defense wasn’t great in college, but I think he’s more than capable. Just wasn’t a focus for him in college. If he’s there at 3 or 4, I’d have a hard time passing on him.

I think his floor is much higher than bust - it’s just a matter of if you’re getting a perennial all star or someone who throws up points but doesn’t make his team better or play much defense (this is my biggest concern - love Ivey’s game, but feel like Purdue should’ve been better).

He could definitely be an under the radar scorer like De’Aaron Fox - someone who puts up 20ppg, but nobody really cares much because they don’t win. But, I think put in the right situation, he’ll be a really good player.

Who would you pick ahead of him?

(Personally, I think the Pistons draft order should be Smith - Ivey - Banchero - Chet. Should note that the Pistons got somewhat lucky in the sense that all of these players are in positions of need. No overlap between any of them and Cade. I think the Vecinie argument – that Banchero and Cade are spiritually overlapping, because they are both cerebral and slow, is overstated. No problem playing both.)

I agree with Sam. Jaden is who I can see Weaver love. He loves athletes and Ivey has it in spades. Plus with the spacing that he’ll get in the NBA, he can be more effective than at Purdue where there’s zero spacing due to college rules and Edey/Williams.

He’s a PF but moonlight as a small ball C. He’s the ideal PF/C in modern NBA because he’s big enough to overpower smaller PF and to bang with the bigs, can shoot and protect the rim. He has a tendency to foul a lot.

Smith>Chet>Ivey>trade the pick if you can

My Pistons big board are:

  1. Paolo
  2. JSJ
  3. Ivey
  4. Chet

There’s a huge drop off after top 4 IMO.

You’re probably right about his floor. Already has athleticism and decent shooting. So at worst, a solid NBA player. I do think the Pistons could be the right situation. He has the qualities that complement what we already have IMO. I’m close to having him above Banchero because I just have trouble seeing Banchero survive on defense in the playoffs.

Is Banchero considered a minus defender? Didnt watch a ton of Duke this year but he always seemed to have decent lateral agility and relatively fleet of foot despite not having next level ‘athleticism’

Only watched closely in the NCAA Tournament, and I thought it was pretty poor. Maybe it was just an effort thing, trying to conserve some energy since he shouldered a big load on offense, but it jumped out as a concern to me.

That is completely fair - I wasnt trying to undermine you, just trying to understand. I dont trust my own judgement and scouting on basketball so you shouldnt let me perception change your thoughts

The fact that it seems like Kris Murray has flown under the radar on all this still is stunning to me. Had him penciled in as Keegan-lite for Iowa next year. To not have him on their roster would be a huge blow.
