Correct the replacement is always better. JJ>>>>Cade, Cade>>>Joe (well yeah), Drew>>>Tom. It’s not usually a great list and closer to a pu pu platter as opposed to a goldmine.
By people outside of Illinois insiders?
I think Ant was implying it as well? I think he also implied that Underwood was trying to keep it on the downlow to prevent Hawkins from transferring.
Lmao, so Underwood is trying to do the “take two dates to one party” thing? Except the endgame is just them both being on the team and Hawkins being unhappy about it?
Yeah I remember that and not saying that’s def wrong but I’ll have to wait to hear more concrete details than that. If Ant knows then how would Hawkins not know?
Either way, I think he’s gonna stay in the draft
Ant? OK…done deal.
Yep this my main concern as well. People keep saying things will be okay because we will just add another 2 guard or find a replacement for Caleb in the portal, but as we have seen, Michigan has significant obstacles that make adding non-grad transfers very difficult. We can’t just snap our fingers and take in players capable of playing quality minutes. All the stars have to align first.
Let me just say say this, IF Caleb stays in the draft, and I’m beginning to think he will, BUT…I’ll finish that later.*
If Caleb stays in the draft and Nance doesn’t, people may “think” he’s an Illinois lock, but, let me just offer this, Juwan Howard , Brad Underwood Just sayin’!
*OK, now for the mysterious BIG BUT from above. Maybe, just maybe, Juwan knows something we don’t regarding Caleb’s intentions and his thought process regarding staying in the draft vs coming back. It seems many of us think that, even with a second round grade, Caleb stays in the draft, but none of us, at least not to my knowledge, has a personal relationship with Caleb, his parents, former coaches, etc. Juwan does.
Juwan knows all those people, and he knows Caleb very well. Maybe Juwan knows something, maybe he has knowledge, that we…don’t. Caleb is very private, he’s quiet and reserved, not on social media. We speculate, but we don’t know. I’m guessing Juwan knows a LOT more about Caleb than we do.
OK, so I find this interesting. According to Zach Shaw over at…well, that other site, Caleb wasn’t invited to either camp. I don’t believe that, but here’s what Shaw wrote on that other site today.
“Two draft-eligible players who weren’t invited to either event were DeVante’ Jones and Caleb Houstan,”
Again, I don’t believe this, and I won’t until I see an actual list of those invited to the draft combine, but…Hmmm…
Two draft-eligible players who weren’t invited to either event were DeVante’ Jones and Caleb Houstan, who declared but is retaining his collegiate eligibility.
Yeah, feels like this would be really big news to just slide into one sentence of an Eli Brooks article. I’m skeptical
Caleb might not have been invited to nba combine and turned down G league combine invite…
I’m afraid we don’t know a whole lot more than we did yesterday about his status.
Congrats to Eli! I would say that’s a bit of a shock.
Also surprised no DeVante. Maybe they saw enough from him last summer and this year to peg him, but seems like a sure G League prospect.
I don’t often comment over there, but I asked Zach if he had actually seen the list of invitees to the draft combine. I’m waiting for his answer.
Devante’ WILL play in the G-league. It looks like Eli may very well play in the G-league, too! GREAT for him, though, selfishly I would LOVE to see him on Juwan’s staff as an assistant! Congratulation, Eli!
Hey, Voltron, I see you asked Zach, as well, as did UMJoe. I didn’t see either comment before posting mine. Hopefully we get an answer from Zach. I certainly would LOVE to have Caleb back and I think, if he is back he’ll show great improvement and make us a much better team than we would be without him. But as I wrote in a comment yesterday, I think I know how much he and his family hope he does get that invite!
(to be specific, I didn’t ask him directly, I just said he was probably wrong )
No love for Lee or Turrell?!? I’m POd. They were interesting and should have gone straight to combine. (Korean guy from Davidson and the kid from Yeshiva U.)
Zach doesn’t quite have the knowledge or sourcing that others on that site like Sam do. I don’t know why he would say that Caleb didn’t get an invite if he doesn’t actually know. But I can’t help but feel like he’s wrong. Who knows, maybe he knows something we don’t!
I agree with you. I think he’s wrong. I think he just wrote something and really didn’t think about what he was saying. By the way, he hasn’t commented yet to the three of us who questioned him.
However they are colleagues. They’re pooling their knowledge. Or at least should be.
