Christie is a much better athlete and more well-rounded than Caleb. I think he projects as a plus defender at the next level too … he stole like 3 or more balls against us simply by using his long arms in passing lanes.
Christie is a lot more fluid and more of a 2/3 IMO. Caleb much more of a pure wing type of shooter right now.
Kris Murray at 37 is interesting. I was expecting him to come back and be a breakout candidate next year. Maybe he stays in the draft though
The way I would have said it is that both player fell short of their lofty expectations last year (and you can argue that Christie had a worse season overall)…but it is easier to project Christie’s raw tools into an NBA player because he’s more athletic, he has more positional flexibility, he showed glimpses of more things he can probably do well as he matures, etc. Caleb was a one-trick pony and that one trick can get him to the NBA but it was less clear if he has more tricks to develop or just needs to get really, really good at that one thing.
Said another way, both are a gamble if you draft them - but Christie has more chips on the table than Houstan so you have better odds of winning.
The thing is that Caleb was basically better statistically across the board. Their KenPom profiles are very similar.
I didn’t even realize he entered the process. He makes a TON of sense as an early to mid second round guy to me. And if he leaves Iowa is going to be sooooo bad
i’m fully expecting him to get picked 12th by a confused team
I didn’t realize that either and agree that he would be an attractive 2nd round get. I hate to give Fran credit, but we all thought Iowa would be awful this past year and look what happened. I don’t see how that roster would be any sort of decent but might not be so quick to write them off.
I mean that is true but you can’t whip out a 1st team All American every year.
I think Pat McCaff will be good. But losing the Murray bros will make everyone’s offense worse and doubt it’ll improve their defense.
Watch Fran embrace his late-stage Beilein and turn into a defensive juggernaut
Give me Kris at 2nd over James Edwards III’s guy, Keegan at top 3-4 for the Pistons!
Lmao can you imagine if a team just submits K. Murray as their pick and they end up with Kris instead. That would be an all time hilarious draft moment.
He seems draftable?
Will there EVER be a list released with the names of those who have been invited to the NBA draft combine and/or the G-league Elite camp? I’m pretty sure the invitations have been sent. Do we just wait until the agents “leak” the names of their clients?
I just did some searching again to see what popped and I found about six confirmed names. I did find a promising link where the webpage was even titled 2022 combine invite list…and it was a list from 2014 because guys like Steven Adams and Trey Burke were on it.
I struggle to understand why it would be so secretive. Wouldn’t the NBA want to publicize it?
Same, AC. I, too, have searched and it’s a real struggle to find anything, just a smattering of leaked information.
There will be a list of who accepted and is participating once that is finalized. The NBA doesn’t release anything until it is set. Guys can decline invites and then others are invited.
Thanks. Do you think Juwan knows if Caleb was invited to either camp? I’m guessing he does.
I’m guessing Juwan knows also. That maybe the reason there are zero hints of prioritizing now of the portal. No available schollies!
Not sure if it was posted already, but TJD apparently got an invite to the NBA combine. Saw it on some IU Twitter…where they also salivated over some jump shots he took in a 2-v-2 scrimmage.
I am curious to see how TJD and Diabate compare in the draft. Both are tweener bigs who can’t shoot but have some athletic potential.
