Good thing the Pistons don’t need a PG because of Cade.
Guessing that’s a shot at me. Probably depends on how you define it. Who was the PG on the 14 Michigan team: Walton or Stauskas? And whose role would you rather Cade have?
It’s not a shot at you. I was merely responding to your comment that this draft is weak on PG. Cade is a PG since he’s the one who initiate plays, direct traffic and I’m happy they got him because he’s an elite talent and fills the PG need for the Pistons.
Ah, there was someone that constantly got mad when I said I didn’t think Cade as a PG or rather ONLY a PG.
Sadly, I think the perfect PG to pair with Cade is someone like Tyrese Halliburton. Someone that can shoot and share ball handling duties without needing to dominate the ball.
pain pain pain
He would be so perfect; I wanted him in the draft and it sucks he was just available.
A recent podcast on the Ringer talked about Cade and Franz. One of the hosts is still down on Cade and just doesn’t think he’s going to be a difference maker in the NBA because he doesn’t have elite physical tools and has to work hard to do just about anything. The other guy was more positive and thinks Cade knows how to manipulate defenses in a savvy way so as long as he improves his shooting consistency and maybe starts to bully guys in the post he should be a solid NBA starter.
As for Franz, they both love him. One of the guys (the Cade hater) thinks Orlando should run their whole offense through him and he’s not doing enough. The other guy also loves Franz but thinks he’s going to top out as a “jack of all trades” and not as an alpha scorer.
Hard to call Cade a difference maker on the team with the worst record, but otherwise that’s odd. The all-star game always has more than just a few guys without elite physical tools but well endowed with elite mental tools and a money jumper.
Their last game before the break Gorman and Scalabrine were very impressed by Cunningham. Said for a guy that is only 6’6 loves to seek out contact and can finish, size guys up and can shoot over them. Said if he had a better supporting cast some of these turnovers or missed shots his assist numbers would be really high. I am not a fan of the Celtics but listening to Scalabrine instead of Heinsohn is a huge upgrade.
Heinsohn is BTN level awful.
I don’t think you can hold the Pistons record against Cade. They’ve only had a few games with a fully intact roster (probably by design.) He’s not going to change your fortunes like a Lebron but you look at his highlights and his game looks effortless. His defense at the end here is impressive.
He also got 2 fouls in the 1st minute of the game…
He’s in foul trouble every damn game…really the only thing that frustrates me about him.
Yeah but I remember those being dumb fouls, not due to lack of athleticism.
It’s concerning that he doesn’t draw more fouls though.
I’m still a little hung up on these NBA draft projections and B10 players. I’m going to skip over the fact that Max Christie has somehow joined the conversation even though he’s had a rough first year and hadn’t previously been expected to be of interest to the NBA this year. Instead, let’s talk about the B10 centers. That ESPN Mock had Liddell (14), Williams (46), and Edey (47) but no Hunter, Kofi, TJD in it.
I understand the concerns about Hunter’s lack of athleticism combined with the NBAs lack of post offense. I also liked the comment about how you need one “elite” skill to stick and Hunter doesn’t have one compared to some of the other guys. However, I still don’t buy “passing” from Williams or “ginormousness” from Edey as making them more useful in the NBA than Kofi or Hunter. Liddell is a PF and I’d draft him for sure. TJD is a PF that I wouldn’t draft due to his lack of a shot. But I don’t see how you take Williams as an old, 4-year, large, short, post-only, big unless you think you can teach him to shoot or slim down to play the 4. I would draft Kofi and I’d give Hunter a look late in the 2nd round. Why? Here are centers currently playing in the NBA that were drafted:
- Isaiah Hartensstein (LAC)
- Willy Hernangomez (NO)
- Jakob Poeltl (SA)
- Jusuf Nurkic (POR)
- Mike Muscala (OKC)
- Ivica Zubac (LAC)
- Steven Adams (MEM)
- Robin Lopez (ORL)
- DeMarcus Cousins (what’s left of him at this point) (DEN)
- Andre Drummond (BKL)
- Jonas Valanciunas (NO)
- Mason Plumlee (CHA)
I’m not saying Kofi and Hunter are as good as some of those guys or should be lottery picks like others. But that list is mostly big-bodied, paint-bound, limited-shooting bigs that have a role in the league. The NBA isn’t full of Anthony Davis or Rudy Gobert athletes. I’d take a gamble on Kofi’s defense/size before I’d take Hunter’s offense/shooting but feels like a second round pick is worth a shot.
Pistons record with Cade 12-32. Without 1-13. I think he’s a difference maker but the roster is terrible as whole.
I want.
Flashes of Giannis.
“That’s a double block.” “The Pistons have beaten the Celtics, wow!”
If the Pistons can pick Chet they have to. Can’t pass on him. But I just can’t get all that comfortable about durability. I can see him being a very productive wing shooter/scorer matchup nightmare, but rim protection is another thing. Where the durability issues come in.
He’s out there trying. Finally, last night he got a good whistle. 9-10 from the line.
