It makes sense. There’s so much skills involved in NBA that it looks like it’s easy for them.
Also, a big problem that I’ve seen from college basketball is they don’t really run offensive set early with tempo and pace to put pressure on defense from the start of the shot clock. Most of the time, I’ve seen offense running aimlessly for about 7-10 seconds before actually running a real set. That’s what drove me crazy as a viewer. Loyola runs a great offense but I’ve seen them run weak PnR 3 times and it didn’t move the defense at all.
Michigan didn’t have that problem but they do run into it occasionally. Generally, they run their set earlier to put pressure on the defense. When they’re on, they’re difficult to defend.
He didn’t. His player screwed up, and then he went out and lied to the public to allow the kid to save face. I gained a lot of respect for Coach Hamilton that day.
I mean, I couldn’t testify to it in court. But from what I remember, the key sequence happened in between those clips – there was a spot where Duncan Robinson first got the rebound, had a guy near him, and that guy conspicuously avoided fouling him. Duncan then dribbled away, and by the time the clip comes on, it was too late. The working theory at the time – and one that I hold to – is that Hamilton had given instructions not to fly Robinson in particular, since he was about a 90% FT shooter, and the FSU player had a brain freeze.
I’d have bet a lot of money on Duncan making the free throws, so it probably didn’t matter, but that’s my recollection.
Since we appear to be going all “Cool story, bro” on the thread , I’ll add that I didn’t have the best look, because my seat was under the far basket, next to the UM pep band. It was about three seats away from being fantastic, but due to the size of the stanchion, I watched much of the game on the Jumbotron
I did a little better in Wichita – after the Kansas / Seton Hall game ended, I went down to the Seton Hall friends & family section and grabbed an empty seat. I was directly behind Jordan Poole, about six rows from the court, when he took the shot.
I see some clips of this segment above but the whole thing is great. I like the part at the beginning where Chris Webber is practically jumping out of his suit with enthusiasm for Howard, UM, and the WBB team.
Here’s something fun. At the risk of a 4D curse that somehow invokes one of @BigBoutros 's game lines in reality, Michigan has clinched a 5th straight Torvik top 15 season. Only Gonzaga has more in a row, with 7 straight. Nobody else has 5. Obviously some blue bloods like Kansas and Duke lost streaks of their own this year.
Man, a recruiting commercial to come play at the University of Michigan broadcast during halftime of an NBA basketball game, with our coach catching respect from 3 all time greats? That doesn’t suck at all.
The NCAA is wretchedly inept, even from the self-serving standpoint of its own (quite obviously) money-making purposes. Consider the terrible deal that Emmert made in re-upping with CBS and Turner for rights to broadcast the basketball tourney in 2016:
I wouldn’t say all time great but he’s definitely Basketball HoF material. Dominant in HS and college with a long NBA career with a bunch of all-star appearances. What defined C-Webb was the timeout in the National Championship game and I think it really affected him mentally.
