Was just playing three days ago against Iowa… had a really good game to cap off his senior year. Awful to hear.
I would have answered extremely closely to Guest’s response, except I’d say that he “probably” has a HoF resume instead of “definitely”, and I think it’s fair to call him an “all time great” at the collegiate level if you’re not fully there at the NBA level.
It seems like many teams have been going to the Indianapolis Zoo. Alabama and Gonzaga posted montages of their field trip, and it seems like UCLA went as well.
Edit: Apparently the NCAA rented out the zoo for the day, and so all sixteen teams probably went.
I don’t entirely agree. We had a meltdown near the end. Duncan’s three pointer was the disaster averted moment, but I still wasn’t celebrating until I saw them back off.
I had such a stupid smile on my face watching that. We have been blessed by such good coaches.
What a crazy game. My recollection of it is that they sped up our offense into nonsense better than any other defense had in a long time. Never researched though.
They were down two possessions with twenty seconds left. You would need missed free throws, a score and either a steal or more missed free throws, and another score. The chances of that are probably less than one in a hundred.
He was one of the best of his time. Was unfortunately screwed by some epically bad officiating in the Kings-Lakers series from winning a title that would probably have changed perceptions of him.
Turns out that it was worse than bad.
Unforgettable. He was D’ing up Shaq hard. Working his tail off. That game permanently changed my understanding of refereeing, and of course Tim Donaghy threw gas on that fire years later. But, to keep it about Webber, yeah. Hard-luck player. Experiences on par with a tragic character in a great novel. No opinion on the HOF debate, but it’s clearly taking the guy a long time to make peace with it all, and you can see why. I sure hope that truly happens.
Did you hear his interview on The Lowe Post? It’s painful to hear him talk about that series.
How people could watch that series and say he was scared of the moment always bothered me.
No sir. But that series really put a stain on the league in my eyes. Then later my suspicions regarding misconduct were supported by perfectly believable allegations.
Recent? Would def listen.
He looked to me like he was playing with his entire ego on the line. When Walton talked about the fear that drove him in his late senior year, it reminded me of that.
Yes, Feb 4. Also has a good interview with Jerami Grant. But the Webber interview got real.
I’ll go listen, but I sure hope he is working his way toward a public reconciliation. If something like that happens on the floor in Crisler, won’t be a dry eye in the house.
@tmackie and @ethansears (I can’t tag them @umhoops?), tip for your next presser with Juwan: Politely ask him to turn off coach speed and he just will, apparently.
A little different when Shaq tells him to turn off coach speak.
