Thankfully Livers is coming back. That raises the outlook for this team quite a bit. Will be very interesting rotations if Brown is eligible.
1 - Brooks (25) | Zeb (10) | Smith (5)
2 - Brown (20) | Brooks (10) | Franz (10)
3 - Franz (25) | Johns (10) | Brown (5)
4 - Livers (35) | Johns (5)
5 - Dickinson (15) | Johns (15) | Custard (10)
Franz - 35
Livers - 35
Brooks - 35
Johns - 30
Brown - 25
Dickinson - 15
Custard - 10
Zeb - 10
Smith - 5
Geez that’s harsh on Smith to say the least. Can’t imagine he doesn’t take nearly all of those minutes you gave to Zeb
I confess to being a Mike Smith doubter
Doubter might be putting it lightly based on that
I’d be pretty shocked if Zeb played more minutes than Mike Smith.
is Zeb too raw/cold from coming off the bench at Montverde?
One guy has played almost 100 college games and is gonna be 23. The other is a true freshman who is still pretty raw.
That makes sense. I’m just skittish about Smith on defense, especially if he’s sharing the backcourt with Brown at any given time
Counterpoint to myself: Mike Smith was 84th nationally in Bart Torvik’s individual metric last season, ahead of B1G stars like Xavier Simpson, Kaleb Wesson, Ayo Dosunmu, Isaiah Livers, Joe Wieskamp, Lamar Stevens, etc.
Columbia was freakishly bad and Smith was burdened with a literally impossible task, hence their stanktastic record. There is reason to believe that a fully healthy Smith surrounded by proper B1G-caliber talent can blossom into a meaningful, even starring, role.
Obligatory Prediction:
Brooks, Brown, Franz, Livers, Johns (positionless!)
Reserves: Smith, Dickinson, Davis (Smith and one of the Centers will play a lot)
Can get a decent sense for Smith/Chaundee by going back through this game/takeaways.
My prediction of what Juwan will do, not necessarily what I would do:
1 - Smith (27) | Brooks (13)
2 - Brooks (20) | Brown (10) | Franz (10)
3 - Franz (20) | Brown (15) | Livers (5)
4 - Livers (28) | Johns (12)
5 - Davis (15) | Dickinson (20) | Johns (5)
I want to see Johns get 15 at the 5, but I think your scenario is more likely than that.
There is ZERO chance Smith only gets 5 mpg. He is far more likely to get 30 than 5.
That’s likely what I would do if it were up to me. But thankfully I’m not in charge
Yes, me too. We are lucky and should be grateful that nobody will take us too seriously.
these minute distributions are not divisible by 5! how am i supposed to read them??
@93grad I know, I had an anti-Smith brain fart
@kturnup I don’t think I see Johns playing fewer total minutes than Dickinson.
(I got scolded by the board software for posting too many short comments hehe)
I really want Johns to play 20+ mins per game this year, but it’s hard for me to find those minutes unless 1) Johns gets a lot of run at C OR 2) Wagner/Brown start at the 2 and Smith’s role is to backup Brooks at the 1
I think either or both of those things could indeed happen. I like Johns as a stretch 5 offensively and I think Brown will see most of his minutes at the 2. If Brown is immediately eligible but plays more 4, that would really hurt my feelings as a Brandon Johns Fan Club Senior VP.
