2020-21 Roster Speculation

That’s fair. Very possible Colin had made his intentions known.

Anyway, abjectly terrified of our defense next year. Could be rough. Not that Colin leaving changes that but he had the most upside on that end

Id like to keep castleton but I think we need a transfer guard more than another center for next year.

So looks like the roster is shaping up to be:

PG - Brooks - Grad Transfer - Zeb
SG - Christopher - Cole
SF - Wagner - Nunez - Jace
PF - Livers - Todd - Johns - Williams
C - Dickinson - Davis

Definitely shaping up to have atleast 10 minutes a game of Johns or Todd at center.

Umm I don’t see Brandon Wade on there and I’m pretty sure he’ll be getting the lions share of the PG minutes.

I wanted to see Castleton continue here. Just didn’t click with Juwan at all for some reason. Very thankful for his contributions and stepping up to win that Rutgers game on the road.

Wasn’t too far off with this - but I assumed Jace would be on scholarship. No need for a Bajema transfer now…hopefully

yeah id like to see another year of bajema, seems like the common trend at um is to transfer after your soph year too

I would plug Zeb in at the two off the bench. I anticipate that he will play a combo role that includes off the ball minutes.

Yeah, I would imagine that our grad transfer is the consistent back up 1 (although tbh I’m not impressed with Mike Smith) and then Cole and Zeb mostly fight over Christopher’s backup minutes.

Absolutely can’t lose him. Probably a 4 year guy with potential. Need him ready to go in 2021.

We have to be getting a grad transfer too. Otherwise Jace giving up the scholarship doesn’t make much sense.

We’re sneakily about to have 6-7 open scholarships next year… Gotta keep signing blue chips

Can’t lose all the depth in the process. Need to have some older guys too.

I would’ve preferred Castleton strictly due to the diversity he offers with Dickinson being the other 5. Davis and Dickinson are a bit too similar and neither excel at high PnR defense nor rim protection.

With all the spots we will have open, the good thing is next spring could have tons players available with no sit out transfer rule and basically 2 coaching carousels wrapped into one.

Eh I don’t agree it was the “wrong choice.” Even if you assume Castleton wanted to stay, Davis was clearly the better of the two last year. With Dickinson, Todd and even Johns as a small ball 5, we have plenty of high end options who probably expect major minutes in the front court.

Dylan’s talked about in the past needing a balanced roster which includes guys who are willing to be a 10-15 minute backup off the bench, and can play that role well. We know Davis fits that mold. Castleton hasn’t really shown he can do that, especially not at a P5 level consistently. Maybe he can grow into that role, but considering this team is built to win next year, it’s better to have the guy who fits the role we need for next year.

It’d be nice to have Colin for the ideal scenario where he drastically improves next year and shows himself to be a B1G caliber 5 for 2021/2022 as well, but even then we’ll have Dickinson who will be the odds on favorite to start at the 5 minus a big disappointment this year (or a massive blow up this year). It sucks to lose a guy like Colin but so think both sides benefit from it.

I think Dickinson would have taken CCs minutes anyway. Too bad, I liked his potential

Michigan basketball’s Colin Castleton enters transfer portal; second Wolverine in 4 days

Mike Smith (20) / Brooks (20)
JC (35) / Zeb (5)
Franz (30) / Livers (5) / Johns (5)
Livers (25) / Todd (10) / Johns (5)
Johns (15) / Todd (10) / Dickinson (5) / Custard (5)

JC - 35
Livers - 30
Franz - 30
Johns - 25
Todd - 20
Brooks - 20
Smith - 20
Dickinson - 5
Custard - 5

9 guys but pretty much a standard 8-man rotation in terms of minutes.

Other potentials - Bajema over Zeb, Williams squeezes in some PT at the 3

Mike Smith would be an elite bench point, IMO. His handle is superb and he can score if necessary.
