If NCAA allows a 2nd official visit after coaching change, might they also allow an additional in home with those who have signed NLI at the time of the coaching change.
No I wouldn’t think so because it isn’t about “an additional in-home” it is about an in-home at a point where off-campus recruiting is illegal per the recruiting calendar. It isn’t a situation where Michigan is out of in-home visits.
But if it only applies to those who previously committed to the school, it is not an unreasonable exception, and I don’t see why any AD would vote No.
Michigan has made great strides in VR recruiting and holograms. Now that Beilein left, the tech recruiting dept is really going to take off.
Dotson and Grimes back to Kansas. Not sure if that helps them or hurts them in the Jalen Wilson pursuit. Will be a better team but maybe less opportunity available.
“My plans for college are not to come in and sit,” he said. “I feel like I’m the best player on every school I’m considering, so I just want to make an impact and win.”
Feels like Michigan has a clear leg up on Kansas and UNC in terms of playing time to offer
True, but if he feels like he’s the best player, then the depth chart (which should give us a giant advantage), won’t actually play out that way.
Wilson already likes Michigan. Juwan is going to sell him on his own love for Michigan which won’t be a problem. He can sell his ability to develop NBA players and his knowledge of what he needs to succeed there. Hopefully he has his staff in place by the time Wilson visits.
Part of the appeal of Michigan is that we want him to replace Iggy, a high usage big wing as a freshman. My (possibly unfounded) theory is that recruits who expect to start as freshmen prefer replacing freshmen over 3 or 4 year players.
Sam’s last paragraph on Wilson is interesting.
Hmm. That is an interesting nugget about Wilson.
Make sense now
“Speaking of Wilson, yesterday we reported that Howard will be sitting down face to face with the former Wolverine signee in the near future. But that doesn’t necessarily mean Wilson will make his way back to campus for a visit. Howard can have in-person contact with Wilson due to the nature of his release from his NLI. Michigan granted the four-star forward a partial release from his letter that lifted the recruiting ban. As such, he is allowed to talk to and visit the other schools. But he is still partially signed to Michigan and only Wolverine coaches can visit him off campus (per Michigan compliance).”
I’m sure I’m just being dense but I honestly can’t tell if that’s good news or bad news with Wilson. Good news that others can’t visit…bad news that he may not want to come back on campus?
He’d have to pay himself I think?
I think good news that he doesn’t have to come back on campus for Michigan’s staff to see him face-to-face. So, if it is true that he is visiting UNC this weekend, Juwan could travel to the Wilsons next week and meet face-to-face, perhaps blunt some of the post-campus momentum another school would get. In that meeting, maybe talk to him about taking another official visit back to Ann Arbor?
He is allowed another official to UM due to a change in the head coach if he wants it.
I am not sure if that still applies to a partial release though I guess?
Sounds good actually – Wilson said he wanted them to come to him, geographically speaking. Maybe that’s symbolically important to him or something like that, but if that’s allowed they should be happy to go. Can Howard visit him more than once? Go now and then after UNC?
Yes, would like to know more about what a partial release is. Unless those recruiting rules differences just posted are it.
Howard is also allowed to visit him off campus.
