2019 - Wing - Jalen Wilson (De-Commit)

Remember what it was like at Michigan with the Ed Martin scandal hanging over its head? It was much worse than when the penalties came down.

With all the scandal swirling around college basketball, the NCAA started by launching investigations of Kansas and Arizona. Why choose to be there with that going on?

Perhaps the argument is that without paying players, they have no interest in going there (not saying I agree with this)

Yea and maybe if he had gone to another school I’d buy this argument, but he chose New Zeeland, not North Carolina.

Opportunity to make some money, not just salary but shoe deals. And New Zealand is a beautiful country that speaks the same language.

Btw, Brendan did say in his chat that because of the coaching change, former commits are permitted to take an additional official visit to their original destination.

Would be good get Wilson back on campus to meet Juwan and his new staff face to face. I think that would be important and a good sign if it happens. Otherwise, it might be difficult to overcome Kansas or UNC.

Saw that, yeah. Can Michigan pay? If so, that’d be a great opportunity to do what Wilson asked the staff to do.

Yes, official visits are paid by the school. Unofficial visits are paid by the prospect.

Great to hear. Presumably they schedule that for just after UNC’s official 7/3-7/5 for Wilson. Would be great to hear that Wagner is coming back for one as well.

If Hampton was the only top recruit spurning Kansas, I’d agree with you. Unless Wilson signs, this will be the first time they’ve been shut out for top 50 recruits since pretty much ever and Wilson is ranked exactly #50. It won’t be for lack of trying. They offered most of the top 50, but couldn’t get many to visit.

Wilson is visiting UNC June 3-5. Not sure where the July dates came from.

Thanks for the correction – appears to be the case. Not sure where I saw July, or if I just had it stuck in my head that way for no reason.

Good to hear, then. Would prefer not to have the additional month of uncertainty.

So how do you explain Arizona, USC and Louisville all with top 11 classes in 2019? One down year at Kansas just looks like an aberration.

Top hoops recruits in today’s game don’t care much about sanctions rumors until something more concrete happens. Most of them think they are going pro in a year or two anyway and they can always transfer if the program gets sanctioned or the coach gets fired.

I think with Louisville it’s explained as the punishment already having been issued. Kids know what they’re walking into.

Arizona, you’re right, doesn’t fit with the narrative of a program on the cusp of a high-profile NCAA investigation (if the NCAA does in fact follow through on its statements about issuing Notices of Infractions).

Safe to assume Jalen Wilson has a twin brother with the same name in the 2020 class?

Anyone can share when/where?

Nothing is set. My understanding of NCAA rules is that Wilson would have to take an official visit to Michigan. Which would be allowed due to the coaching change.

I don’t see any way that Michigan can meet face-to-face in his house or school, for example, unless I’m blatantly missing something.

Let’s get 'em both!

LOL, I missed that. I rate this assumption as 60% safe.

Yeah unless “meet” is referring to a call/ft or something. But seems like that would have already happened (maybe it did but i haven’t seen a confirmation like with Bajema).
