:joy: put the man on the payroll as the official UMHoops international correspondent. Maybe he can uncover some more Euro prospects for Coach B!

Thank you for all the praise!
How do you guys feel about the situation? Do you think Coach Beilein would put out an ultimatum for Franz to commit? I fear that ALBA would scratch him from the roster should he commit to Michigan while the season is still going on and add another young German prospect to the roster instead…

I think that Coach Beilein would give him time and space, but would probably need a decision by late May.

I imagine Coach Beilein wants to finalize the roster heading into June.

Franz has been my #1 recruiting target (and I think that goes for most others on this board too). He has huge upside and would fit in perfectly at Michigan. I think Beilein would wait for a commitment until after his season to respect his situation. Coach might want more of a silent understanding of his level of interest prior to the end of the season though so that he knows whether to leave a scholarship open for Franz. I’m hoping that he got that when he went to Germany.

Yeah, I’d say Beilein asked for a decision by mid-late May…but he doesn’t strike me like an ultimatum kind of guy.

Also, regarding Franz’ position in college–there’s no way he plays 5 for us next year. And the 3/4 are pretty interchangeable in our offense…they’re both wing types and Franz projects perfectly at that spot. I’d say he even has a shot at the 2, but the lateral quickness on D will determine whether that happens.

Love the Chandler Parsons comparison. Thanks for all the insight!! If you can’t tell, he’s #1 on the wishlist for most of us

Like I said, he is a smart player and would find a way to contribute at any position. But I am pretty sure he will not go to Michigan if Beilein told him that he will have to play the 4 extensively.
Defensively, he is not strong enough to compete in the low post against Big10 level. Not yet anyway, maybe after two summers of Michigan strength training

We don’t need Wagner at the 4 position. We need him at the 3.

If we needed a replacement for Livers and Johns at the 4, Wilson could play there and Wagner at the 3.

Thetruth, do you live in Berlin? Are you there now?

I think we need him at 2/3, as 2 is the clear need in '19, and after that, we have Bajema at the 2 and Wilson at the 3/4.

I honestly didn’t know there was a three post max! WOW! I am WAY over the limit! Can I withdraw several of my posts so we can get more of this great info from thetruth?!?

The 4 in a Beilein offense is different then a 4 in most European offenses I presume, and it has the same role as the 3. He’d have opportunity to play in ball screens if he is good at it. Either way, we have someone returning that is best fitted for the 4 on defense/offense, so the 3 would be Franz spot, or the 2 if he’s able to guard on the perimeter.

I understand what you are saying. But he is not a type like Livers who can play both forward positions. He is a 2/3. If you are planning to use him as a 3/4 then you will not get the best out of him. Just trying to clarify that point, would you have played Poole at the 4 just because he is a wing?
Franz is good at ball screens but if he would not be the one setting the screen.

I am well connected in the basketball scene in Germany. Won’t give you any details as to my whereabouts.

As this round of recruiting goes, it seems that Beilein is willing to go without a traditional 2G next season. On offense, I see no concern with a line-up of X-Franze-Wilson-Livers-Teske, but adjustment needs to be made on defense, maybe bring back the zones, or play Eli and DD against small guards.

I have no concern that Franz will be ready for college basketball. Playing alongside Derrick Walton in Alba gives him a huge leg up.
