Also, this was Donnie Tillman’s primary recruiter at Utah.
As I posted the other day, doesn’t sound like Michigan has reached out to Tyler Scanlon at all.
do you have any speculation to why they haven’t?
In what sense? Something beyond they don’t love his game or don’t think he’s a need/fit?
Praying for a grad transfer to appear that is a perfect fit for Michigan.
“Shooty McDefenserson” is a 6-5 wing RS junior who has entered the transfer portal. Immediately eligible. 42.3% career 3-pt shooter on 6 attempts a game. Lanky wing defender who is looking for exposure on the national stage after playing in mid-majors.
Wow! Why hasn’t Juwan reached out to this kid? He sounds like a perfect fit! Has Juwan still not passed the recruiting test yet? He must have failed and is incapable of doing this job. This is an outrage!
Somebody find out if Scanlon’s great aunt or something is from Philly and we’ll have a shot
FWIW more non UNLV coaches have started to follow tillman recently
Why is D.J. Williams not spoke about more? He is a great option for Michigan, played in the Big ten already
Rashad Williams from Cleveland State entered the transfer protocol. Local kid, played at Wayne Memorial in HS, shot 40 pct from 3 as a freshman last year. Might be worth kicking the tires on.
Not sure a “sit 1, play 3” transfer makes sense for Michigan’s situation, unless it’s a stud transfer. If he was immediately eligible to help next season or a “sit 1, play 1” to help break up the class of 2020 needs…
Not ideal but I think worth a look. And the way the NCAA is handing out waivers like candy he might not have to sit. Bryn Forbes actually comes to mind, similar type player who played at Cleveland State and got a waiver to play right away at MSU. Undersized 2 is probably not ideal but if he can shoot 40 pct from three he’d probably be in the rotation.
I don’t worry about his size as long as he plays defense.
That’s one of the biggest questions regarding him.
Next year’s defense is anchored by Z and T. That’s a pretty good start if you’re looking to hide a guy. Beyond that, presumably an influx of talent comes in and if he can compete he can play.
But, beyond Michigan’s need for a 2guard next year, what in his situation indicates that he’d be given instant eligibility at his next school? Even if he is, the coaches would be tying up 3years of scholarship for a player they likely will recruit over in the class of 2020? And if he doesn’t get instant eligibility, he’s tie up 3-4 years of scholarship for maybe 1 year of production?
As a 1 year scholarship slot to compete with Brooks, DeJulius, Bajema, Nunez at the 2guard slot — yeah, worth the chance. As a “sit 1, play 1” to anchor the practice squad this year and then compete in the backcourt with Zeb Jackson, DeJulius, Bajema, Brooks, Nunez, and any other class of 2020 guards…less appealing but OK. Tying up a 3rd and potentially 4th year of scholarships on a limited upside player really doesn’t seem to benefit Coach Howard and staff. At least in my opinion.
If we’re taking a more well rounded, higher upside player, then it’s a different equation.
I really have no clue why everyone calls Nunez a 2. He’s a 3 clear as day in my eyes. A catch and shoot wing. Doesn’t provide the handles, mobility or explosiveness to be a 2. But I pretty much agree with everything else @YostsGhosts says. It’s almost never worked out when teams take a guy who fits this profile with teams at any level. Taking a chance like this usually does more bad than good. Maybe we are wrong and be extremely happy to be. But odds don’t normally say that will happen.
I have not watched Williams enough to say he should be a guy we go after but I could absolutely care less how many years he ties up a scholarship. If he came here you think all those guys are staying? Zero chance. By 2020 at a minimum one if not two of those guys will be gone if they aren’t playing. And maybe I’m in the minority but at times Michigan has been in desperate need of solid 4 year guys. There’s a reason we won with players like Maar and Duncan Robinson as seniors surrounded by good younger players. At any rate scholarship situations work themselves out most of the time. I can’t think of too many times we had to say no to a guy because another guy was holding up a scholarship.
