Way I see it, why not go for the big boys…all they can do is say no.
Apparently his cousin goes to UM, maybe that can spark enough interest to get a visit outta him.
Surprising to see them show such late interest though, but its always worth a shot.
I once heard family ties can play a strong factor. Here’s to hoping.
Is there a timeframe on Dozier's announcement? And that Jaylen Brown thing is weird. No clue what to make of it until we see more (i.e. he commits elsewhere or randomly visit Ann Arbor).
I think that Dozier has an official to Louisville the last weekend of October. He’s signing in the early period. So his timeline is early November.
Yep, South Carolina this weekend and Louisville the next.

Michigan visited Brown on Wednesday, and he has a lot of connections to the school and the state in general. “Michigan hasn’t really recruited me before now,” said Brown. “My uncle, my mom’s brother, went to Michigan, my mom went to Michigan State. Basically half of my family went to Michigan and the other half went to Michigan State. People in my family started to make calls and they finally got in touch with a manager or something, and I can’t remember exactly the whole story, but they got in touch with the coaches who then contacted my mom, and contacted me.” When asked if Michigan will have a chance in this recruitment despite coming in late, Brown said, “For sure I am going to consider them. For me it isn’t about recruiting me the hardest or recruiting me the longest, it is about the best fit. All of these schools are really good, and for me it is all about what is the best school to go to in terms of fit and where I am most comfortable. I am more concerned with how I relate to the coach than the school with the best record or that has been recruiting me the longest.”
Wow…intriguing. Would be a huge get late in the cycle. I think this May be indicative of how confident we are with Dozier (not very). Race to see who commits first! Love the fact that the Brown camp initiated the contact with the staff, that conveys true interest. Taking all those shooters may haunt MSU on this one
Very very interesting indeed. Getting a visit out of him this late in the cycle could be a huge deal. The staff may not feel great about Dozier (I have no insight or real opinion on that), but they seem like they are definitely willing to reciprocate interest in a top prospect who reaches out to them, which… why wouldn’t you? This will be really interesting to follow up on.
The staff may feel good about Dozier, but there’s no reason to put off the #2 player in the class no matter how they feel. Now or never.
I defend the coaching staff as much as anyone on here, but this concerns me. How did they not know about his potential interest and family ties to UofM? He’s a five-star and somehow fell through the cracks? I know they are not in love with the one and done players, but come on - he has got Carmelo written all over him. Game-changer! I hope they can make up some ground quickly and get him on campus…
jerome, really hard to say. I can only guess there wasn’t any obvious connection sooner to help identify mutual interest (like with many in the 2016 early on). Also, just watched some highlights of the kid, and I really shouldn’t have… he is ridiculous. Can’t afford to get my hopes up for a kid who is only now reaching out to Michigan this late in the process.

You could say the same thing about Izzo and the kid’s MSU connections. They just didn’t know unless someone told them.
I hear ya Dingoblue, he has got tremendous ability. We would all love to see him in Maize and Blue. I don’t mean to get too negative, just found it strange that his camp had to reach out to us, though that is obviously still a very good thing.

Wasn’t taking it as negative ajerome, I’m a little puzzled as well. I’ll try to keep my fingers (and toes) crossed but my expectations low.
Just watched about 10 minutes worth of highlights from Brown. My initial comparison on the fly, is a bigger/more athletic version of Dion Waiters. The kid has it all, elite athleticism, good change of direction, can shoot off the bounce, strong as a bull, finishes through contact, appears to have good court vision/passing. The kid can probably play the 2 -4 spots on either side of the floor and be an impact player at any or all of those positions.
I love Dozier, but would rather have Brown. Not going to be picky, I’d be thrilled to have either, as they’re both great players. Brown has more NBA potential in my opinion, so for those that like the 2 and dones…Dozier is your guy.
For those saying I was being too nitpicky on Brian Bowen in terms of not being a top 10 player…there is a HUGE discrepancy between a player like Jaylen Brown in relation to Brian Bowen. Simply no comparison in my opinion. Bowen is a nice player, in the 40-60 range in my opinion, whereas Brown is no doubt a top 10 player. The ability to be multi-faceted combined with elite athleticism is usually the criteria for a top 10 perimeter player. Brown fits that description, whereas Bowen is pretty limited at this point while being an above average/good, not great athlete.
I agree on the Waiters comparison and how there is a major difference between what you see on Brown vs. Bowen. It really is a striking difference.
I only mentioned Carmelo not as a direct comparison in skillset, but in regards to how a special one and done can join an existing team and take it to the highest level.

Brown is 2 years older, I think you are underrating the difference that makes (but that’s a conversation for the other thread).
Compare these two videos (as a quick example) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2ZVLwqOJks vs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3T-ul7PEsk
Dylan - even that first video of Brown(presumably at the same age) reflects Brown’s superior ability to create his own shot off the bounce in addition to court vision/passing in comparison to Bowen. The big difference from the 1st to 2nd video above is the elite athleticism. Brown had above average/good athleticism in the first video, while he was elite in the second. Not saying that 2 years doesn’t make a difference (although Bowen is 16 and Brown 17), because Brown is certainly a better player in the 2nd video, but even at the same stage of development Brown was just simply better in my opinion. There is a difference between players like Brown/Josh Jackson, who can create their own shot and create easy shots for others in relation to players like Bowen that are primarily catch and shoot players with above average athleticism…just my opinion though
Bowen is very young still. I saw him in person 5 times last year and came away incredibly impressed. He will never wow you with athleticism and quicks, nor power or highlight reel moments. But he can DEFINATELY play! His movement at this stage is purposeful and efficient. He always seems to be in the right place to impact the play. He was Arthur Hills leading rebounder last year as a Frosh, and is a smooth ball handler and underrated passer. He has almost always been playing with kids 2-3 years older growing up. He doesn’t get a lot of offensive opportunities in HS as yet ( remember, Eric Davis is on the team still ) but they will be coming. His future development is yet to be seen, but he has a lot of tools to work with. His shot should continue to improve mechanically, and he will eventually control the ball on offense. A real intriguing prospect that shouldn’t be dismissed because of a lack of explosiveness and quicks. They will improve though. Reminds me of Kyle Anderson. Gonna be SUPER hard to beat MSU on this one though.
Chez - thanks for the input, as I know you are very familiar with the Saginaw area players. I agree lateral quickness isn’t his strong suit (what do you know Sane, someone actually agrees with me!), but I do think he is above average in terms of verticality. Not so much concerned about his athleticism, because at 6’7 I think he’s a decent athlete overall, but I question his change of direction/ability to handle the ball and create his own shot. Can you shed light on his current ability to do that? When I look at him on film (3-4 videos)…I see a guy that is primarily catch and shoot
