I think Williams will develop enough of a shot to become viable there.
From the box scores Iāve seen it feels like Akins isnāt playing enough
Cameron Johnson is a better comp. Heās a PF who can shoot, can play solid defense but is an average athlete at best.
In the State Championship heās not afraid at all
Watching that game, Pierre didnāt impress. Had 15 points on 6-19 from the field. Furthermore, this is a 6ā6 kid with an athletic build playing in the smallest classification in Michigan going to a big time program and isnt even arguably the best player on the floor. What?
I just thought that shot was ridiculous and that it would absolutely kill Tom Izzo
Hmm scrolling MSU Twitter youād have thought he was the second coming of Gary Harris. I havenāt seen much either way to say. I know heās pretty much dominated all year
And I havenāt seen him play much at all, so this is just a 1 game sampling, but his team had another kid go 6-10 and it was a 3 point game with under a minute to go. They played a good program in Tri Unity (home of the legendary Chris Kaman), but thereās no way those two teams should be within 25 points of each other given personnel. Tri Unity has less than 200 kids in their HS and their starting line up is about what youād expect. The physical traits should be overwhelming and they werenāt.
Well from what I understand heās scoring like 30 points a game so seems like you caught a bad one. Seems like heās the likely Mr. basketball. I donāt have a strong opinion either way
Part of that is the style of play the Public School league offers. Very up and down and much faster tempo than this game, which was a lot of zone from both teams. Much less possessions in this game compared to a PSL game.
Heās been completely dominant this year, but ya have to take the numbers with a grain of salt given the low level of HS ball he is playing in non-PSL games (King and Ferndale blew them out in games against high level comp). His teammates also arenāt all that good so he has to carry them. I think he will be a good player for MSU though
He shot 19 times. Plenty of opportunities. He was 2-8 from three. Considering Tri Unityās best player was their PG and no one guarding Brooks will play much (if at all) beyond HS and donāt have anywhere close to the same physical profile, the fact that he wasnāt able to get whatever he wanted is surprising.
I havenāt seen a full live game of Brooks ever before today, just highlights but I watched the full game this morning and it was really unimpressive. 6 for 19 against a much smaller team and half of his makes were tough shots. They did send double teams at him the whole time, so take that with a grain of salt.
The MSU fan scout on Brooks seems to be āheās a guy who can guard bigger stronger players and play the 3/4 and finish through trafficāā¦which I didnāt see any of today. He looked like a tough shot taker / tough shot maker against way undersized unathletic competition. Was surprised he didnāt feast at the rim today. Maybe it was just a bad game though, who knows.
Also, he made the shot and is clearly a good to great shooter but I laughed out loud that he attempted a step back three from the logo with a wide open teammate under the bucket for a layup.
His shot selection and discipline will be MUCH different when he plays for Izzo. The only true gauge of how good he is is to look at tape of AAU/EYBL games. He WILL be good, no question, but not as good as his 30 ppg average indicate, especially against low level competition.
Reallllllllllly hope we go all in on Ty Rodgers if we havenāt yet
Devin Gardnerās a pretty good basketball analyst.
always felt that brooks was a fairly average athlete and that made him a tier below akins and bufkin
Was about to post that Ty Rodgers and Grand Blanc are playing Ann Arbor Huron right now on Bally Sports. Iām watching it on the FS Go App. Huron is coached by Waleed Samaha who worked under Beilein at U of M. Huron is loaded. Exact same team from last year that was top 3 in the state and I think their entire starting 5 is going D1 or D2. Grand Blanc is young but have at least 3 guys that will go D1 and a couple more that will go D2/NAIA. Both teams are well coached too.
But yeah by all accounts Iāve heard Michigan is on Rodgers very hard. Talking at least 3 times per week and Juwan talks to Ty every week apparently. Seems like Michigan is trying to get that done but we will see if they do. MSU has recruited him but I donāt know how hard. It seems like either they arenāt entirely interested in Ty or Ty and his camp isnāt as interested. Wouldnāt be shocked if things change there though considering Tyās family connection to MSU but right now I donāt think they are the top spot for him. I personally prefer Rodgers over Glenn and even Jarace Walker but we will see what happens.
iāll be mad if um takes greg glenn instead of rodgers, despite being similarly ranked rodgers is in a different tier
