For those of you interested, the inaugural Throwdown in Motown (sponsored by Thegrindsession.com) will come to Cass Tech HS (Detroit) on December 28-29th this year. The tournament will feature a plethora of high major D1 talent, including our very own UM commit, Xavier Simpson (see bolded below for schedule/days). Some of the other names you may recognize - Josh Jackson, Miles Bridges, Devon Daniels, Thon Maker, Rawle Alkins, Jarred Vanderbilt.

Schedule:

December 28th:

Athletes Institute (Thon Maker/5 star/2016) vs. Word of God (Rawle Alkins/5 star/2016)

Prolific Prep (Josh Jackson and Devon Daniels) vs. Huntington Prep (Miles Bridges)

December 29th:

Word of God (Alkins) vs. Lima (XAVIER SIMPSON)

Prolific Prep vs. Athletes Institute

Victory Prep (Jarred Vanderbilt/5 star/2017) vs. Lima (XAVIER SIMPSON)

That’s a tremendous line-up. Athlete Institute/Orangeville may not be the force they’ve been with Jamal Murray at the helm but the Maker brothers are great to watch. Should be cool to see Simpson match up with this talent.

Looks like Simpson and his Lima squad will play twice on the 29th. Doesn’t make a ton of sense to me.

Travel costs, hotel, meals, etc…much cheaper to play twice in one day and head back home.

Usually the tournament/showcase will cover those expenses especially with all these national caliber teams coming.
