They have underperformed their seed a grand total of 3 times in 12 tournaments since 2008. They have also overplayed their seed twice in that time.
By definition a 1-seed is expected to make the final four. So not making the final four is underperforming.
“Expected” is too strong a word. They may be favored / have a better chance than anyone else, but historically, the field makes it 60% of the time.

Not worth arguing about. We can all have our opinions. My opinion is that the WCC was very bad this year and it will hurt them. Also not sure underperforming seed 3 times and over performing twice is considered empirical data to prove your argument lol

I count three underperforms, 7/8 play to seeds, and 2/3 overperforms, depending on how you define making it to the title game as a #1 seed.

Both things can be true.
They demonstrated that they could go months without playing a good team and then beat good teams by reaching the elite eight.
Can we do a UMhoops community bracket challenge? Would be fun to pick Iowa two rounds further than everyone else does

I would love it as well. Does anyone know whether any of the typical websites would even collect and pay out bracket fees (like I know Yahoo does for fantasy football)? Could resolve the issue that we don’t all know each other personally so someone doesn’t run off with all of our fees.

True story: I attended Venmo’s tech meetup presentation in NYC in the early 2000’s. Back then their shtick was that you could take money from your friends on the basis of trust. The audience laughed at the notion.

I think his early years aside from first two years has weighted his rankings down which didn’t help the perception that Zags choke in the NCAA tourney when the opposite is true in reality. Gonzaga is a great team with NBA prospects. I expect them to make the Final Four.
Plus did you know that Gonzaga is the only school to reach Sweet 16 in the past 5 NCAA tournament. It speaks to their staying power as an elite team.
