I wonder how much 2014 and 2015 played in all the 2016 offers?
2015 is surely a factor given that it might be a class of one. Bigger factor in the number of offers is the number of high level kids with genuine mutual interest in Michigan and who have visited.
Ben, I agree with everything you said! After Spike and Caris I just don’t question the logic. They see something in Towns they like and I say go get him. Nik was ranked in the 70’s and he was POTY…Trust in the system.
Very interesting day. I like offering the three PGs, and they all seem to have different timelines for declaring (Thornton soon — if he goes Michigan, then that’s that!; Winston probably a little later; and Goodin not until the summer before his senior year). Battle does seem unlikely, but had to offer, of course. You never know. I’ll trust the coaching staff on Towns. I like Teske’s potential as a stretch big (still growing??).
Lol. Ya.
Just hoping we actually get some stud commits soon. Most lately have just been role players…ready for some jewels. And Almost all offered today are studs. Almost.
I believe Towns and Leaf can play on the court at the same time in Michigan’s system.
Insiders are saying that Winston won’t be the only prospect visiting next week, and that the coaches will be pushing for a commit from one of the prospects visiting at that time.
It doesn’t matter if/when Towns commits. We will surely continue to recruit Leaf until he tells us he is not interested. You don’t pass up a player of his potential if he has legitimate interest.
And we are going to offer Leaf too. Amazing turn of philosophy from our staff IMO. We obviously are offering multiple players for the same position in hopes of flushing out the true future Wolverine wannabes. Those who are vacillating may be left hanging. Interesting change. Lesson learned from 14-15?
Ben - I must say that I tend to fall on your side of the fence with the recruiting/development argument, but what is it about Towns that turns you off?
6’7 with above average handle, good shot, but limited athleticism and strength. I don’t care what the rankings say right now, I’d be willing to wager he is a top 60-80 player by this time next year. I do like ESA better but I have no problem with the towns offer and I’d be happy to have him commit. Honestly, I see no difference between a HS Zak Irvin and Seth Towns other than rankings. In fact I’d say that Towns’ had a better handle than Irvin at the same time in their development.
I know it’s very limited in what I have seen from Towns. However, from what I have seen/ read… He is on/ off with his shot… Not lights out. He cannot create off dribble. Nit create own shot. His Release is very low. Average at best rebounder @ 6’7. Not strong under the bucket.
So - what does he bring? 6’7 avg rebounder, avg shooter with low release that can’t create. Just not impressed. Compare Leaf highlights vs Towns. Not close. I’m sure coaches have their reasons. I just don’t see. AND I believe it’s OK to question our coaches. They have done a ton right but are not perfect and have had our share of whiffs.
