NCAA Résumé/Non-Conference Discussion

Villanova raced out to a big lead against St. John’s but has completely given it away, now tied with 8:00 left in the second half.

Good grief, Nova is crumbling. Now down one. They moved to a zone (maybe a matchup zone?) and are getting bombed from deep as a result.

Booth is killing Nova with heroball.

(And as I say that he does a great job to get to the rim and put them up two.)

And now down one.

It’s been a tale of two seasons for South Carolina.

After going 5-8 in the non-conference with drubbings at the hands of Wofford (home), Wyoming (road), and Clemson (home), plus a home loss to Stony Brook, a neutral court loss to Providence, and a road loss to woeful OK State, they’ve completely turned things around in SEC play. With tonight’s demolition of Ole Miss (a game Vegas and advanced metrics said they’d lose), South Carolina now sits at 9-4 in league play with four very winnable games left (Bama, @Mizzou, @A&M, UGA). 12-6 seems quite likely if not 13-5.

It’s just too bad for Michigan’s sake it took until late December for them to remember how to play basketball. A double-digit win over a 20-win power conference team would’ve been another nice feather for M.

USC at 93 in the NET (before tonight’s win) … there’s a chance they could at least creep up to Q2 status if they keep winning.

Penn State’s win tonight should help it stick as a Q2 win/Q1 loss.
