Guessing you didn’t see the game. When Cade or Killian were the primary defender on Green he scored 6 points and had at least 4 TOs
Yeah, I watched it…
I will acknowledge that I didn’t mentally split out his possessions on Green, so I’ll take the L there. If he forced all of Green’s 4 TO’s, fine.
Generally speaking, my pessimism on him is mostly surrounding his lack of shooting (which has been persistent since Europe) and a somewhat questionable ability to get to the basket (he did do this in Europe but has struggled in brief US time). If he can’t do those things, it doesn’t matter how his passing is (I think it’s good), because he won’t be guarded. Obviously, last night wasn’t a great data point in that regard.
If it’s any consolation, I like Saben Lee as a viable backup PG.
Green’s turnovers were more team defense. He didn’t know what to do when help came. But he shot a remarkable percentage considering Killian blocked two of his shots and Cade blocked another.
I did notice that the Pistons did a good job of trapping Green, preventing penetration, and forcing him to pass out (which he sometimes struggled with).
Yeah I was more than a bit baffled by that comment. Hayes has been lights out on defense both games.
Chaundee just pulled a Zion on a pair of his Michigan Jordans.
Edit: apparently they’re actually Zion’s signature shoes, but they have a Block M on them. And he got it to a Michigan fan
My biggest issue with AAU/travel ball is the amount of games they play and they truly don’t give a break for the player’s bodies to rest and recover. I think ESPN magazine or a sport article came out saying that player’s bodies are already breaking down by the time they get to the NBA. It sounded convincing but are there evidence supporting it and are the studies shown to be statistically significant to be taken seriously.
I’m just thinking off the top of my head.
Oh Chaundee! His energy is unmatched
Didn’t watch any of them but:
Mike Smith had six points on 3/4 shooting and 3 boards in 18 minutes.
X was DNP
Teske started and scratched 10 minutes but didn’t do much of anything.
Franz had 10 points on 4/7 shooting (1/3 from 3), 3 boards, an assist and a steal - at least not a clearly poor game this time.
Ignas continued his strong play - 9 points, 6 boards on 4 shots in 15 mins. (Ignas really seems to be one of those “quadruple A players” where he can torch the g league/summer but has a hard time carving out an NBA role)
Chaundee was 1/5 in 14 mins.
Watched some of the Magic game - definitely a better game from Franz. Still very passive, but that is probably to be expected. He will take open shots though.
Iggy looks great on O - he hit a tough 3, and got to the line a bit. Had a couple nice drive and dish plays - his problem looks like it will always be D - he gave up a couple backdoors and didn’t close out a 3 in the 4th.
Also, watched like 3 minutes of the GSW -Toronto game. Kuminga had a strong take right into the body of Scottie Barnes and finished - very similar to what he did to Franz the other night.
I guess it shouldn’t be shocking given his profile but what struck me about Kuminga in his game vs the Magic is that he’s alternating plays that are very impressive and plays that are shockingly bad. For every time you see him absolutely abuse a well regarded defensive prospect (Franz, Barnes) to get a layup he starts taking 2 jumpers (which he can’t make). He also shows nearly no interest in rebounding.
I saw some clips of Mobley (and saw his stat line) and he really seems to do lots of good things but is really struggling to score. I really question the team building strategy that has him slotted in to play the 4.
I watched a fair amount of the Magic game. They put Franz on Mobley when they were both on the court and he did nothing. Mobley mostly stood around the perimeter and was pretty passive, though they pulled out to a large lead thanks to the Cavs hitting a bunch of threes. To start the 4th the Magic put their second unit in and Iggy led a charge to make it closer…and at that point Mobley made two nice passes to set up his teammates.
Franz had a good first half but was pretty quiet in the second half. I would agree with the comment about Iggy being a AAAA player because he was getting his shot, passed a couple of times to set up shots for others (something he never did at Michigan), and looked good. Teske seemed fine while he was out there - mostly setting screens and being big. I thought he played better than the other big the Magic used…but didn’t do much.
He hit a contested 3 right in Franz’s face so I wouldn’t say he did nothing
Yeah I dk, Mobley had 6 assists last night and they were reaaaally tantalizing. There’s a few of them in Schmitz’s clip:
I love that stuff where he’s facilitating from the elbow. 4 of 12 from 2 isn’t great, but I expected the jumper to be a WIP and he’s so skinny it’s probably going to take a minute for him to figure out how to get to the rim on his own. Maybe that stuff will work much less well w/ Allen on the floor or against legit NBA athletes but they’ll have plenty of minutes to give him against guys deeper in the rotation.
Yeah, as I said, in the first game he looked pretty good as a passer and very good as a defender. It would appear that last night he looked very good as a passer and pretty good as a defender. Both nights, he’s struggled to score, and I just don’t love the idea of him becoming a jump-shooter as a scorer
I think he’s been a jump shooter because teams are backing off him and he’s been drilling them. I only watched a little of the Mobley games but when they used him the way Michigan used Franz (getting him going downhill with momentum) he was lethal.
The one game I watched, he played a decent amount with Kabengele, which means he needs to be a jump shooter sort of.
Landing in a place like Golden State was huge for Kuminga. I think that inconsistency will be much less in a situation like the Warriors as opposed to a youth rebuild.
I really liked what the Warriors, Rockets, and Hawks did.
not a lot here except about Franz having one of the toughest summer leagues. Some of the same stuff people were saying before.
