I think we can all agree that it was good that we never got one of those 5*/one-and-done recruits that we hoped Beilein would eventually start to pull in. Look what happened at his first one-and-done! Iggy broke John
Count me as one who doesnât see him being drafted 20-40th.
I was under the belief that he wasnât going to stay in if he wasnât a first rounder or fairly close to it. Now that JB is gone, that might sway it. If his agent is saying 20 - 40, that puts him there.
Of course his current agents are telling him heâs â20-40.â 3% of a second round contract is still worth more than 100% of nothing if he returns to school.
But itâs also not a good look for an agency to say heâs gonna get drafted if theyâre massively inflating where they think he will realistically go. Especially now that college players can work with sports agencies without losing eligibility.
If they felt it is better for Iggy to come back to school, theyâd tell him because if that is the best advice, theyâre far more likely to sign him as a client when he did decide to go pro. Itâs not a good business model to be wrong because others will see that and be less inclined to sign with them.
20 to 40 reminds me of the national HS evaluators saying every just about every international kid would be âaround a top 40 kidâ. Just high enough that you can cover your bases but low enough that if he slips you can say well he wasnât quite a five-star or anything like that.
Example: Ah, you were picked 53rd, thatâs almost 20-40.
If Iggy is picked at 20, then this draft is even weaker than advertised. What a crock that evaluation is.
Probably was the agent talking up his stock more than anything. I bet there are few, if any agents that would advise their clients to go back to college so they themselves lose a client.
Some video of Iggy performing an impressive spin move and dunking half way down the page in this piece about college-leaving NBA prospects. Might suggest that he has more room for continued growth than some of us have to now perceived.

Interesting side note that they have one of the dudes that we played last summer ranked #8 from Mega Bemax - Goga Bitadze. Gotta try and dig up the old box score and see how he did.
Difference between a few years ago and now was that players in the past would return to play college ball unless they were likely to be drafted in the 1st round (top 30) or possibly top 10 of the 2nd round. Our 3 guys look like they will be drafted 40 to 60. A few years ago they all would have returned to school.
By the way, 8 of the top 50 players listed completed their senior years in college. So the NBA teams do draft older players who proved their ability to perform and not just YOUNG underclassmen players with HIGH potential irregardless of âperformanceâ proof.
I am just wondering if the fact that players coming out of Michigan who played under JB have been able to stick in the league has something to do with the current draft projections? And or hope of the player being able to find their way to the league?
If you look at those who stays for 3 or more years, Hardaway, Levert, DJ, all doing quite well. those who came out only after two years, Stauskas, Burke, GRIII had early struggles but still hang around. Mo is too early to tell.
Hell yeah!
Poole is a bit low. Matthews is right where I think he should be although most might say heâs high.
Iggy is a tad bit too high lol.
Good bye Iggy (officially)
Has there ever been 3 early entry 2nd round picks from the same team?
Not sure on that. It just amazes me how elaborate and deliberate Beilein recruited to find guys to unpack their bags and want Michigan, and then he loses them after such a short time. In the end, that cost us Beilein too.
And Iâd bet all that not all three get drafted.
