Lol did Stu really complain about being underutilized at Michigan? Beilein turned him into a serviceable high major player when he was more of a mid major talent.
He did talk about on his last podcast I believe it was. Had Andrew Dakich on as guest. Stu said something about how he sometimes wished he had gone to a smaller school so he could have focused more time on stuff that would have further developed him for his pro career.
Would he even have a pro career if he went to a small school? I donāt remember him having many offers out of high school.
His only other listed offer on the recruiting pages was Western Michigan.
Gr3 can complain all he wants about his usage but he was the 3rd best offensive option on a team with 4 NBA guys. Some of these guys forget thereās one ball for five guys.
As talented as Poole can be Iād much rather see him leave and Iggy return. I can see a scenario where Poole becomes a problem in the locker room and he will continue to be a liability on defense. If a guy doesnāt want to be here then weāre better off moving on. Iggy meanwhile would just come back and compete and average 17 a night and annoy opponents.
Didnāt hurt Ja Morant. I kid I kid.
I always thought Stu was very talented and could have done more. I remember John Calhoun praising Stu as a true freshman after a game against UConn. Stu had a decent ceiling from day one.
Same podcast Stu said he thought he was going to Indiana but that fell through. I canāt remember what else he said about college choices but there were more. You should give it a listen.
Itās not the first time former Michigan players have mentioned on Stuās Podcast that playing a role for Beilein May have stopped their development of other skill. Jordan Morgan said similar - if you ever catch tape of him now, heās scoring quite a bit with a jumper out to 18 feet.
They donāt mean it as a criticism of Beilein - they understand why he did what he did.
Do those guys ever think that maybe they just became better players after they began devoting all of their time to the sport and maybe they werenāt in their prime as 20-21 year old kids? Love J-Mo too, but he flashed none of that ability to shoot jumpers at Michigan. Canāt trust a guy to do more than pick and roll if he doesnāt prove it. I definitely didnāt think that Beilein āheld them back.ā
It just really bothers me when I hear players like Stu and J-Mo complain when Beilein gave them an amazing opportunity at the time. If they were being recruited in 2019 there is no way that Beilein would have offered them. They would have ended up at a smaller school and likely wouldnāt have had the same awesome college experiences playing on a national stage, in the NCAA tournament and competing for big ten titles.
Perhaps I should add that they both had a ton of respect for Beilein and enjoyed their time at Michigan, lest I paint a picture that they are just complaining.
I think the talks paint a picture of John outside the grinning nice man we see.
Feel like you need to. Look at this from a players perspective more instead of a fans
This whole area is why Horford transferred, right? Then he went to Florida and showed why Beilein didnāt give him a longer leash. Iām guessing every coach in America has players who think this.
With a guy like Beilein who wonāt feed egos thereās probably a couple more ĀÆ_(ć)_/ĀÆ
That is absolutely true! The nba cannot find enough catch and shoot guys!
Did you listen to the episode where Douglas had Horford as a guest? Great listen. Horford detested Billy Donovan with a passion
No, but sounds like the content for my drive tomorrow.
Link? I find it interesting regarding Donavan because Iāve heard his name mentioned as a possible Beilein replacement whenever he leaves. Purely speculation and hopefully we get close to a decade more of Beilein.
I love Not Mainstream Podcast with Stuart Douglass | Ep. 11- Jon Horford, letās play it! https://www.podbean.com/media/share/dir-gsrad-5d8f343
Horford called him a psychopath and a complete piece of shit. Horford isnāt the most reliable narrator, IMO, but still pretty damning.
Yeah, Iām sure itās very common. Heck, everyone at Duke this year not named RJ Barrett probably felt underutilized.
I thought Horford came across a little whiny in that podcast.
Stu Douglas? I was with you until then.
Exactly. Stu had a great looking jump shot that didnāt go in nearly as often as you would have expected. He didnāt have the handle to either play the point or score off the dribble. Solid defender, for sure. Highlight for me was his dunk against Tennessee in the tourney.
