Sane - I think you’re overlooking Donnal as a shooter in addition to any other wing/pg we end up with (possibly Coleman at this point, maybe Brunson). That would be at least 3 shooters, possibly 4 shooters in Wilson’s second year. That being said, tell me how many post defenders/post threats on offense the roster will have in Wilson’s second year? You tell me what we need?
The amount of crow MattD is going to eat in the future will be epic.
“I loathe a frontcourt next year of Wilson/Donnal” - that type of crow?
Chatman/McGary with Horford, Donnal, Doyle, Irvin and Wilson as options. Yeah, I’m real worried. I’m real worried about the guy making people think of a young Paul George/ Jared Jeffries, absolutely no talent that guy. Who could possible want a uber long, smooth, great shooting, shot blocking combo forward? Not I.
Nice way to avoid your hypocrisy, you are a smooth customer. SMH
Maybe you’re not worried about the guy that reminds people of Paul George/Jeffries, but are you worried about the guy that doesn’t have a motor and can’t rebound in a crowd? Oh, I forgot, all of those concerns will disappear because “it’s not the player’s fault that Beilien can’t teach the proper fundamentals of boxing out” - wait I suppose you didn’t say that either. You are an absolute joke.
The bottom line is over the last several years Coach Belien and his staff have proven a eye for talent that will surprise and develop. Did anyone think Levert would even play last year, let alone develop into a starter by his sophomore campaign. He is even being talked about as a future nba prospect in some circles. Burke was a unheardled recruit coming in. Hardaway wasn’t looked at as a hot prospect when he signed.
Further,
When Morris committed, he was a 4* ranked 70th by Rivals. He is in the NBA.
When Hardaway Jr. committed to Michigan he was 3* unranked by Rivals. He is in the NBA.
When GRIII committed to Michigan, he was a 3* ranked 118th by Rivals. 11th ranked player by the time he was on the roster.
When Trey Burke committed, he was a 3* ranked 136th by Rivals. He is in the NBA.
When Zak Irvin committed to Michigan, he was a 4* ranked 97th by Rivals. 24th ranked by the time he was on the roster.
Beilein has a knack for seeing what players have the potential to become really good players.
^^^^^^ And for the life of me, please don't ever utilize the term "work ethic" in conjunction with Michigan recruits. If we're being realistic, there aren't very many players on the roster that are willing to outwork the opposition/play with max effort and hustle during the games to warrant that type of statement.
McGary? One of the highest motor players in college basketball.
Albrecht? Limited physically, but his work ethic helps even the playing field.
LeVert? Would not be anywhere near the player he is without the amount of work he put in this off-season.
Stauskas? See above.
Not every player on the team is GRIII.
I really tried to refrain from responding to you, Lord knows I did, but some of your contentions are so ignorant that it really compels me to understand what the heck is going on through your head.
Excluding McGary, which of those players you cite above regarding work ethic would you characterize as making hustle plays and giving max effort on both sides of the court during games. I’ve seen each and every one those guys, excluding MCGary, consistently ball watch and spectate.
You’re statements are so ridiculous it’s almost funny.
Nice way to avoid your hypocrisy, you are a smooth customer. SMHMaybe you’re not worried about the guy that reminds people of Paul George/Jeffries, but are you worried about the guy that doesn’t have a motor and can’t rebound in a crowd? If those concerns disappeared, Wilson would be an elite recruit. None of us are saying Wilson is an elite recruit without concerns. We are saying that he is an average recruit that has the potential to be a really good player after a year in the system (weight room, coaches, etc.).
Will Wilson step in and be GRIII? No. But look no further than last year.
PG Trey Burke (NPOY) —> Spike Albrecht/Derrick Walton
SG/SF Tim Hardaway Jr. (1st team All Big Ten) —> Caris LeVert/Nik Stauskas
Was Michigan doomed? No, because we got improvement from 2012-2013 role players LeVert/Stauskas.
Likewise, we should see improvement from (take your pick) Walton/Irvin/Stauskas/LeVert
At this time last year, LeVert did not look like he would be much of a contributor. This year, he is one of our key players. Who knows if that could be Donnal next year or not?
MattD, we aren’t saying that Wilson doesn’t have question marks… we are saying that the sky is not falling because of those question marks.
Matt wants a team full of Mark Madsens. Our PG doesn’t need any kind of skill as long as he is Mark Madsen. Our Wings dont need shooting as long as theyre Mark Madsen. Our bigs dont need low post moves or a mid range jump shot as long as theyre Mark Madsen.
Guestavo, I’ve dealt with trolls like him before.
You are a hypocrite and an absolute joke for disagreeing with him.
I have little understanding of basketball and am ignorant because I don’t agree with him.
These type of people are the ones that use to shoot spitballs in class. Some people just crave that extra attention.
Low post moves - I’ve been begging for someone with a back to the basket game for so long it’s not funny.
Stop it with the exaggerations in your efforts to find someone to support and cheerlead your foolishness, because that’s exactly what it is, and we both know it. I don’t want Mark Madsens, but I don’t want the Phoenix Suns either - a team that shoots the 3 as a rule, no low post game, and average defense at best. Exciting as hell, wins lots of games, but doesn’t result in championships or long term success.
I’m asking for balance, and if you’re too blind to see that, then that is your problem. For this team as currently constructed, we need bigs that are rebounders/defenders/post threats by trade, with outside shooting being the possible concern rather than vice versa. Other than McGary, we simply don’t have that at this point. Perhaps Doyle can be a low post threat on offense, but you need more than 1 big that is actually a big.
The differences between most of the comments on here and yours our most of us highlight Wilson’s strengths and ALSO accept and admit his weakness and areas that need improvement. All we hear emphasized over and over is his weakness, bad fit, posting tweets that highlight weakness, none of the ones that talk about strengths or potential.
A couple breaks here or there and two, maybe three of our losses are wins. All our losses have been close, the Duke game had horrible officiating! So things aren’t as bad it may appear this year. This is still a NCAA team that will continue to get better as the season goes. Levert looks like he could take another step forward next year, Walton could take a Morris like freshman to sophomore leap, Irving is starting to flash his potential, Robinson may leave and I would say McGary and Stauskus are 50/50. Horford and Spike are still here. Add Donnal, Chatman, Wilson, and Doyle (RS candidate) and next years team is definitely looking strong.
Do yourself a favor go be a Kentucky fan, Calipari pays for the star ranks you seem to love so much so year in year out you should be happy!
^^^^^^^Seriously, people like you are just helpless.^^^^^^^
I have long ago admitted that Wilson is a decent perimeter player on offense, just don’t like the fit with Michigan at this point. Not once have I referenced rankings in support of anything I say. You’re not even worth responding to at this point, continue to cheerlead, perhaps if you provide your address I’ll send you a pair of pom poms and you can practice and show us the progress you’ve made next week.
We do need more true bigs but that isn’t an issue this year or next. We will deal with that in the 2015 recruiting class.
I think you’re assuming too quickly that McGary and/or GR3 are staying. I wouldn’t be so quick to draw that conclusion because you never know what the future holds. I think we all know I’m a huge fan of Mitch, so Lord knows I wish him the best, but there is no guarantee he returns, and even if he does, will he be 100%? Back injuries are no joke, especially when going under the knife.
Still have Horford, Donnal, Doyle, Wilson, Max, Irvin. Now go and see what most teams in the nation return…
C’mon - are we really going to place Horford/Bielfeldt in the category of serviceable bigs? Are we really going to be depend on a RS Freshman that can’t beat out Bielfeldt for PT? Are we really going to depend on true freshman?
I think your point is we have bodies - my answer to that would be do we have legitimate options?
And we all can send you a MSU shirt.
WE WORK! Go Blue!
Since when is Horford not capable? I guess he was useless in the Arizona game?
